Product Description

So you think your body belongs to you – think again!

Jack Madigan has the perfect life. He runs a mission in the Bronx helping New York's poor and homeless, the lost souls of the city. His wife Kerry works on a campaigning newspaper. They are not rich but they are fulfilled. And they are about to have their first child.

Sadistic sociopath Ernie Mason is released from prison; the poor black kid from the Bronx brutalised by a lifetime of abuse, drugs and crime until he becomes a killer; a walking time-bomb. He gets drunk, steals a car and goes joyriding in central Manhattan.

Jack says goodbye to Kerry after a routine medical examination and she crosses the busy street.

Ernie Mason hits Kerry full on, killing her instantly and killing himself.

The bottom falls out of Jack Madigan's life. But then he is made an offer no other human being has ever received. The chance to say a final goodbye to Kerry on 'the other side'.

But there is a price to pay.

He must allow a recently departed soul to occupy his body while he is in spiritual limbo to be given one last chance of redemption.

That's when the cosmic switch clicks and a dark soul enters Jack Madigan's body.

Guess who?

4.0 out of 5 stars Bodyswitch 3 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The first text of this book is "BODYSWITCH a paranormal erotic psycho thriller" which startled me as I didn't think it was quite that from the description on Amazon.
Luckily (for me) it wasn't too paranormal nor too erotic, but plenty of psycho and thriller

The paranormal bit was that the protagonist visits a "half-way land" to say goodbye to his recently deceased wife. This didn't seem out of place, it seemed like a nice thought about the interim afterlife. There wasn't a lot of sex, just some encounters that mostly moved the story along. I didn't particularly like the character of the psychiatric consultant, she seemed a bit unprofessional.

This seemed a long book. It wasn't "un-put-downable" but I kept going back to it to see what happened next. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but certainly an enjoyable read with some good ideas and plots.
I will probably check out some more books by David Callinan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hits you with a bit of everything 23 Feb 2012

Format:Kindle Edition
I was reminded of the film Ghost by this book for some reason. Very emotional in places and well written so you really feel the grief....but there are humorous elements in there as well to make it not too heavy. Quite a web of paranormal and being in between lives and so on. Very compelling read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A quirky thriller 19 Feb 2012
By LW
Format:Kindle Edition
This writer has a very distinctive style. I have read some of his other books and have to say I think he is a fresh voice. When many thrillers are so samey, David Callinan seems to deliver unusual, challenging reads and Bodyswitch is no exception. There were parts I loved, parts that knocked me back in my seat and parts I had to take a deep breath to believe but the point is this book takes you on a kind of spiritual thriller journey that you just cannot stop reading. Issues such as racial stereotypes are very prominent just now but you don't feel the black guy who wakes up white is in any way connected with race. They are just two people who happen to be of a different colour. It's the way they spark off each other and the fact that both experience a kind of redemption as well as the sheer intensity and drive of the prose that gets you in the end.
