5.0 out of 5 stars No screws required 22 May 2013
By John C.
Verified Purchase
I received this a couple of weeks ago and it has been happily staying up in my kitchen door frame ever since. My 16 year old son put it up with no screws and without looking at the instructions (in true male style). 20 seconds of twisting and it was solidly in place. We make sure when we use it that our grip is sympathetic to tightening the bar further. No problems so far and it feels solid and good quality (especially considering the price).

A couple of recommendations to people putting it up:

1. Make sure that the surface is even and wide enough that the end can fit fully and flush against the frame
2. Ensure that the door frame used is solid
3. Twist until the pole is tightly in place
4. Always ensure that you exercise such that any twist continues to tighten the pole

If you do these things, I see no reason why this should fall down for anybody within the specified weight range. One of the best value and most successful products I have bought on Amazon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product! 25 April 2010
I bought this to go with my p90x program and it's awesome! Put it up in about 2 minutes with just friction fitting - I didn't want to use the screws and potentially damage the door. I was a bit skeptical that it would hold my weight at first with only friction but it's super-strong and totally doesn't even move or bend at all. The other good things are a) that it can go ad high or low in your doorway as you like so it's good for tall people (not a problem for me at 5'1" but potentially a problem for others); b) you don't need a doorway with wide architraving; and c) it's totally unobtrusive so you can just leave it up and not have to take it up and down if you're lazy like me. Super-impressed for such a cheap price!

I did think it was excellent - until one day when i was using it, the bar came unscrewed and I fell. I always screwed it in pretty tight and checked before using.

I still use now, but I always but a matt or cushion on the floor under me as landing on my head was a rather unpleasant experience and although I'm ok, I do not wish to repeat.

4.0 out of 5 stars fits 12 Jan 2014

fits in most doorways, however one will never be able to do very wide pull ups and unfortunately the foam grips are too close for pull for my liking but good for chin ups, gets the job done

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and cheerful 18 Mar 2011
Very easy to install (although did not come with an instruction manual, but is easy enough to figure how to put it up). I lost the attachment screws within 5 mins, but seems to hold fine by just being jammed into the door frame (you twist the bar and it elongates until it sits firmly in the door frame). The non slip grip handles are very nice, and they don't move away or become asymmetric as you twist the bar to make it longer (in order to fix it in the doorway). Sometimes, while doing pull ups, the bar starts twisting, so it's important to do them from the direction where the twist would result in the bar stretching further rather than shrinking and falling out. This is slightly annoying, but not a major problem. I am 10st, and it holds me no problem, but I am not sure that it would hold someone much heavier than that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent item - better than I thought 10 Dec 2010

I was a bit dubious as to whether or not this item would actually work as described but I have to say it has not disappointed. It was very easy to install (no drilling required - simply twist to fit) and I have been using it with no problems. At 13.5 stone it is more than capable of taking my weight. For anyone thinking of purchasing a straight-forward chin-up bar that can be used within seconds of coming out of the package then go for this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great chin up bar 1 Feb 2014

Fits in the doorway just fine. Very secure and doesn't bend when weighted. Make sure, like most of these products, when using that you are tightening the bar with your grip and not loosening it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Needs proper fixings
The rubber fixings on the end just aren't up to the job of keeping this bar in place. I expected screw fixings - and wish I looked a bit closer before buying this bar. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product
Great quality for the price. If you tighten it properly there shouldn't be any issues with slippage. Only minor issue is that it's quite narrow and won't fit wider doors. Read more
