Book Description

2 May 2013 Bodyguard 1 (Book 1)

In a dangerous world, everyone needs protection.

Bodyguard: Hostage is the new thriller from Chris Bradford, bestselling author of Young Samurai. Bodyguard is a bulletproof action-adventure series that fans of Cherub and Alex Rider will love. This is Lee Child for younger readers - Jason Bourne for the next generation.

With the rise of teen stars, the intense media focus on celeb families and a new wave of billionaires, adults are no longer the only target for hostage-taking, blackmail and assassination - kids are too.

That's why they need a young bodyguard like Connor Reeves to protect them.

Recruited into the ranks of a covert young bodyguard squad, 14-year-old Connor Reeves embarks on a rigorous close protection course. Training in surveillance, anti-ambush exercises, hostage survival and unarmed combat, he's put through his paces and wonders if he will actually survive the course.

But when the US President summons Connor to protect his impulsive teenage daughter, Connor's training is put to the ultimate test. For Connor discovers that the First Daughter, Alicia, doesn't want to be guarded. She just wants to have fun. And with no clue Connor is her bodyguard, Alicia tries to elude her Secret Service agents and lead Connor astray. But unknown to her, a terrorist sleeper cell has been activated.

Its mission: to take the president's daughter HOSTAGE...

And don't miss Bodyguard: Ransom coming soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vastly Better Than Grisham 11 Jun 2013
By C. E. Utley TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The greatest mistake an author can make when writing for a teenage audience (sadly made by John Grisham in his Theodore Boone novels) is to assume that it can't cope with well-written books and complex plots. Chris Bradford has not made that mistake. Bodyguard: Hostage is never patronising to its young readers (or to the many adults who will also be captivated by the novel).

The story is fast-paced, gripping and wonderfully escapist. Just as Alex Rider and the young James Bond series come to an end we now have a delightful new fourteen-year-old hero in Connor Reeves. The son of an SAS soldier who heroically gave his life to save an American diplomat, Connor is recruited by an organisation which provides teenage bodyguards ("buddyguards") to protect children who may be the targets of assassins or kidnappers.

Connor's first mission is to protect the teenage daughter of the President of the USA. She, Alicia, is extraordinarily pretty and high-spirited. She hates the constant presence of secret service agents. So, naturally, she keeps trying to escape from them. But there is reason to believe that dangerous terrorists may be trying to kill or kidnap her. In desperation, her father, the President, decides to employ Connor to be her bodyguard, to stick by her side at all times, particularly when she tries to get away from the secret service. More than that I cannot tell you. But I can assure you that, if you like a rip-roaring adventure, you will love this book.

It is sad that modern publishers insist on putting their products in pigeon holes. Fifty years ago this book would have been directed at both teenage and adult readers. Now, however, the publishers have to choose between the two.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a page turner 9 May 2013
By L. Roy
Format:Paperback
Brilliantly written book covering contemporary issues. Intrigue, danger, excitement, love interests - it's all in there and of course some more martial arts techniques that Chris Bradford is famous for! Bodyguard - Hostage comes together for a tense finale. I found I couldn't put it down towards the end and I can't wait to read the next adventure of Connor Reeves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic 17 Jun 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this as a gift for my son - age 10, and a huge fan of the Young Samurai series. I started to flick through it, to check that it wasn't too old for him, and found that I couldn't put it down! It's a really clever concept, and full of so many details that I found myself wondering how much was fact, and how much was fiction.
I then took the family to hear the author speak at the Hay Festival (he's a great speaker - as entertaining on the stage as he is to read!) and so now we are all hooked.
Can't wait for the next in the series

5.0 out of 5 stars amazing 13 April 2014
By Wmt
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love this book and is a strong contender, it's pacing was perfect; I wanted to read on so quickly it was finished in two days! I hardly ever return to books, for example I never re read the LOTR books, but this is one I definitely will be revisiting. I will be purchasing the next book immediately. I feel enriched, entertained and relieved at this books slightly comedic plot, and I would recommend it to everyone who is not over the age of 30 as it may be too childish for your matured mind. 10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic new series. 18 Mar 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This was a fantastic book. I read it quickly because I was enthralled by it. If you like books like Alex rider and young bond and the cherub series, you'll love this and maybe, like I do, like this one better than them, or at least as good as them anyway.

So basically you follow Connor. A young kickboxing champ. He gets recruited by the budyguard program. He starts to get trained and then gets asked by the president of the United States to come and protect his daughter. She doesn't know that he is her bodyguard. They all don't know that there is a terrorist cell coming after them too.

I found this book to be fast paced, never slow or stagnant. Good and action packed. Keeps you on the edge of your seat.

I loved the characters too. Instantly falling in love with them and found them to be well portrayed. Not too much about them given away but just the right amount to leave you happy and relating to them. The book contains some good dashing of humour too, helping it along nicely.

Basically. You finish reading this and then you instantly want to read the next one. It's out in a few months so not too long to wait. I enjoyed it thoroughly, so much I've read it twice.

Give it a go. You won't be disappointed.
