My review of this work is based purely on personal experience and the hope that my comments will prove useful to others - so a little background information is essential. Firstly, in a previous career, I spent 27 years in the British Army serving with airborne forces. I continue to pride myself on my fitness to this day and haven't allowed the fact that I just turned 60 to slow me down. Nevertheless, things do get harder every year and I recently joined a gym for the very first time. I found a suitable routine, worked particularly hard and was surprised to see the muscles grow. Seriously, even at 60, I can say I have never previously had biceps like the ones I have now. And that's not all!
On top of that I really do feel great. After 3 months, however, I seemed to be slowing up and the body stopped improving in spite of continued hard work. The reason was simple. My diet was all wrong. Not only that, the advice I was getting was conflicting. So I bought some books and started learning about proteins, carbohydrates, calories and so forth. Fine, if you already understand these things - but I did not. Slowly, things started to improve.
Then I came across this book. At first sight, we are informed that author Dr. Franco Columbu is a nutrition expert. More importantly, however, he has competed at the very top level of international bodybuilding competitions and has first hand knowledge of what is and what is not a required diet for people who are seeking to improve their physique.
On page 132 there is a picture of the author surrounded by his favourite foods; Fish, eggs, nuts and fruit. It really is a healthy diet and one which this book will help you understand as fully as anyone needs to understand the subject. It has certainly put my own training back on schedule and the improvements have now restarted.
