5.0 out of 5 stars Works like nothing else 30 Jun 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
After years of trying all sorts of exercise, including 4-5 times a week at the gym and 2 years regular kickboxing, I have seen more changes to my body in 4 weeks of doing these exercises than the rest combined. I'm finally in size 10 jeans which feels fab. Mark Lauren strikes me as a knowledgeable expert with minimal ego and his advice is well researched and makes good sense. There are no promises of instant results, but instead realistic goals.

Like other reviewers I have found that 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week in my own home is easy to fit into my routine. And a fair bit of the 30 minutes is resting (honestly). Other people have said it seems like magic and I'd agree. I've worked much much harder for fewer results many times before. And I'm making fast progress through the exercises which in itself is motivating as it's easy to see how far I've come. Im pleased also that once I've mastered this book i can move on to YAYOG as I bought this a while ago but found it too difficult. The other bonus of this method is it's completely portable - I did my workout in a hotel room on a work trip this week and it was perfect.

I wouldn't advise getting the kindle version because this is partly a work book that you need to record things in (such as which exercise you're on in each section - this changes regularly).

I would recommend using an app to help with timing yourself on each exercise. I have a boxing timer app on my iPhone which does the trick.

I can't recommend this book enough and am boring anyone who'll listen about it on a regular basis. Do your body and yourself a favour and buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book 1 Oct 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Great guide to fitness, I only workout at home, and this book show you the effective way and no equipment needed. I also have You Are Your Own Gym (YAYOG) and although similar in the way, they both complement each other quite well. Nutrition chapter in Body by You is really good. Also, the fitness progress, ie. how you make the exercise more difficult gradually is well explained. YAYOG has wider variety of exercises with better description which muscles they work, so I refer to it a lot and look up different exercises I want to add for a change.
Overally, I love the concept, it really works, and it's great fun and satisfaction as you see improvements every week.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book I've bought in a long while 15 April 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Often I find that books I buy don't always offer me what I expect them to so I was very pleased that this book went over and above my expectations.

These exercises really work (well they do for me). I still am having trouble believing how toned I have become in a short space of time with relatively little effort. These exercises seem like magic! What's more, I enjoy the exercises and look forward to them and it is very easy for me to find 30 minutes, three times a week, also not having to leave the house to exercise is a big bonus too.

I am one happy customer.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books ever on strength training 15 Feb 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book makes sense. Mark Lauren believes that if you train fo about half an hour three times a week you can have a fantastic body. And he shows you very precisely how to go about it. The programme requires some studying to fully understand the instructions but it's all there. The photos are clear and helpful, too, showing unlikely looking bits of furniture being pressed into "home gym" duty. I question only the use of a door as a chinning bar - not sure the ones in my house re up to it, but I know what sort of structure I am seeking. The companion volume "You are Your Own Gym" is a useful extra if you want to ring the changes with some of the exercises. On the basis of a few weeks' application, Lauren's method works. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tells it as it is. 30 Dec 2013
By Zac
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Got this for my partner as she was using my book You Are Your Own Gym which is a great training aid. Short simple and to the point. Get it, read it, understand it, follow it and you can't go wrong. No secrets, no magic you just get out what you put in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Your body 9 Dec 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Every thing that Mark says in this book is so very true. I've recently bought his 'you are your own gym' workout DVD' s and thought I'd buy the book. The exercises all look easy and you think that only doing them for 20 seconds each or so won't do anything but I can feel them working already after a few workouts! Great book, great DVD' s and Mark is motivational. If you are serious about getting fit this is the book for you

5.0 out of 5 stars Best exercise book of my life! 11 July 2013
By Clare
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Enjoyable and easy to follow book with large, eye-friendly print/layout plus helpful photos. I've exercised my entire life and now that I am in my 40s am fed up up with devoting so much time to it. The less than 30 minutes 3 times a week slogan plus the reviews got me interested enough to buy the book. Three months later and I'm very impressed with the results and so are my friends that have since bought the book. I didn't realise how much of a workout my body was getting until my thigh and butt muscles were so sore that I had difficulty sitting/standing and climbing stairs soon after I started the workout. I have the same results now as I did years ago when I used to spend 2 hours 3 times a week in the gym using the machines.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like YAYOG but for girls 6 May 2013
By CW4444
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you have YAYOG and are happy using it, then you probably don't really need this. And you are probably enjoying being a bloody tough cookie! There isn't really anything new in here for you. But, if, like me, you are a real girl and running is your thing more than pull ups, give this a go. It isn't a girlie version of YAYOG, but it has a bit of a gentler curve towards 5 rounds of 50 reps of one legged squats ... And to me, that's not a wimp thing, that's a I'd rather take a gentle incline than not bother at all thing!
