Product Description

Product Description

A victim of debilitating injuries, Moshe Feldenkrais was intimately aware of the link between bodily suffering and mental health. Through healing himself, he made revolutionary discoveries, culminating in the development of the method that now bears his name. In an intellectually rich and eloquent style, Feldenkrais delves into neurology, prehistory, child development, gravity and anti-gravity, reflexive versus learned behavior, the effects of emotion, especially anxiety, on posture, and most importantly, the inseparability of body and mind.

Every personal trainer should have to study Moshe. There should not be a choice. There is too much information that trainers do not understand and they can learn so much by studying these principles. If you want to seperate yourself from all other trainers read Moshe.

4.0 out of 5 stars Integrity of bodymind 30 Aug 2012

Feldenkrais saw the 'bodymind' before the term 'holistic' was coined. Written before most of the world's population was born, this book provides perspective and information which still has much to teach to the segmented medical/rehabilitation/healthcare providers of today. Reading it has added depth to my 20+ years experience working with muscle pain. Wish I had read it when I started or very shortly after.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moshe Feldenkrais Was Ahead of His Time 5 Jun 2014
By The Beadist - Published on

I'm rereading the book (published in 1949) and, second time around, this gem stood out: "Our knowledge of what is biologically important is so scanty that we worship ideas which merely sound good. For instance, we now worship an idea of extraversion with the result that even intelligent people come to think that a normal man is the one who is active, driving, enterprising all his waking life. The result is a cult of exteriorization producing a new type of neurotics, ruining their children's lives and wasting away their own." His is a critical look at our culture, written decades before the pace of life has accelerated to an unhealthy degree.

Worth reading and reflecting on. Reality of the body and mind being two inseparable aspects of the same human experience of life.

Recommended by massage therapist. Definitely a good read. Haven't completely read through, just parts that apply or interest me. But an excellent book to read for understanding behavior from at a deeper level. Highly recommend.
