Review
The year's best business books: "This book shows you how to use your body language to your advantage." Short List Magazine January 09 (readership 1.8 Million)

Product Description

Your body language is on display almost all of the time…so isn’t it important you know what signal you’re sending? Discover how to use your body language to your advantage and at the same time learn how to decipher other people’s signals.

Research shows that up to 90% of communication is transmitted non-verbally and that the most successful people - in all walks of life - are intuitive in deciphering these signals. We may think we know how to use this ‘silent’ language but how many of us can actually use it well?

Body Language will help you:

• gain a deeper understanding of other people so you can ‘read’ their minds

• know what non-verbal signals you may be giving out to others and how to use this to communicate and gain the response you want

• notice if what someone says is completely at odds with what they are thinking or feeling

• learn how your ‘extremities’ can give you away (despite what’s coming out of your mouth).

• make a better impression in your social and work life by being aware of your ‘bodytalk’ (and that of others)...and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars You never get a second chance to make a first impression, 30 Jan 2009

You never get a second chance to make a first impression

7 Easy lesson to master the silent language.

Being a bloke I had never taken too much notice of body with regard to women. I did however learn when I was single after a long time married to lookout for the signs.

the theory is that women do all the running and give all the signs that men pick up without noticing it. If helps if you do lookout for the signs and take action accordingly.

The signs for the uninitiated are enlarged pupils that is they want to see more of you, will touch you which means they are comfortable with you, leaning forward that is they are interested in what you are saying.

The others are listening and reflecting back. this means rather than hold a conversation of your own you should reflect back on the conversation of the other person. this will give you some positive points in that you are actually listening to what the other person is saying.

How many conversations do we have that are in fact two totally separate monologues.

Once you know these signs and take notice of them it can revolutionise your life.

I wish more people would take basic notice of how they come across.

90 per cent of he message comes from non verbal clues

We should all do it and we know it but we should spend time listening to other people before we make out point. We should also spend time watching how they deliver their message.

If we don't like the messenger we will not like the message. that is very important as we should divorce the two. For example if someone we do not like comes up with a proposal we are less likely to agree with it. At work if I know I am going to get a o I pass the message through someone else to the eventual recipient who might be listened to.

The hardest to tell is if someone is lying. I usually find that most people speak slowly therefore giving themselves plenty of time to think about the answer and what they are saying. My personal view is that if people do not talk naturally they usually have something to hide.

They hold unpalatable views and are keeping them to themselves.

The more they speak naturally the better chance you have of seeing if they are lying. The downside is that accomplished liars have a set speech and are able to tell is fluently without pause so they do not pause or hesitate.

Body language is a great subject but no amount of studying it is going to make you an expert as it is just one of the skills you have to acquire to make an impression.

A good book but not an easy read as there is so much of it and the signs can be conflicting.

The least you should read is the likeability factor as we all need to improve.

2.0 out of 5 stars seemingly a rushed job!, 27 May 2009
By B. Raph - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
this feels like a quickly pulled together book that was a publisher's/author's greed after the success of the last book. just seems to be a somewhat random, poorly organised and relatively badly written collection of "facts"; which themselves leave you feeling undernourised.

changes of terminology and the feeling you never actually get to the bones of the issue all lead to a book which i cannot recommend.

This is a clear and useful book. It describes the different, most frequently occurring, body language gestures in enough detail to be useful.
