Having read the print version, I was gratified that the unabridged audio version of HRF Keating's The Body in the Billiard Room was available. This continues the adventures of the Bombay Crime Investigations Dept. detective as he is requested to go to a distant resort to solve the murder of a billards marker in a local members only Club. This time Ghote has to fight being labelled a 'Great Detective" such as Holmes, Poirot, etc.

Keating's acquired knowledge of India shines through. The plot is well constructed. It is the slow psychological build up by the author that makes this title worth the read, or in this case worth 'hearing.' Those who enjoy a lighter type of John LeCarre novel will certainly enjoy Keating. Those looking for fast paced mystery thrillers may be put off. Keating is not that type of writer. His novels bear reading and re-reading and can be savoured over a period of time as one listens to more and more of the series.
