Book Description

23 May 2013 Myrtle Clover Mysteries
It’s just an ordinary day for octogenarian sleuth Myrtle Clover—until her yardman discovers a dead body planted in her backyard. This death isn’t cut and dried—the victim was bashed in the head with one of Myrtle’s garden gnomes. Myrtle’s friend Miles recognizes the body and identifies him as Charles Clayborne… reluctantly admitting he’s a cousin. Charles wasn’t the sort of relative you bragged about—he was a garden variety sleaze, which is very likely why he ended up murdered. As Myrtle starts digging up dirt to nip the killings in the bud, someone’s focused on scaring her off the case. Myrtle vows to find the murderer…before she’s pushing up daisies, herself.

I really enjoyed this. It's got great characters - Myrtle is just wonderful. This was a 'good read' - good on suspense and pretty unputdownable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ocvtogenarian Miss Marple 9 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Think an octogenarian Miss Marple, but less polished, less witty, less sophisticated, more repetitive, more obvious, and set in modern small-town America than in a cosy mid-twentieth-century English village. Think not roses and climbing ivy but overgrown grass and a collection of garden gnomes, one of which is a murder weapon. It's all a bit primitive, but the sort of thing its aficionados will doubtless lap up, wanting more.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mildly amusing 7 May 2013

A pleasant read about an octogenarian amateur sleuth. It was funny enough to keep me smiling. Nothing wrong with the book, it was just too light weight for me, you could describe it as a 'nice murder'.

4.0 out of 5 stars Reasonable 13 Jun 2014

Found this book a little difficult to get into at first. Also annoyed me a little as I thought to author was trying to create an American Miss Marple which annoyed me a little.
However, on the whole not a bad book.
