Product Description

Product Description

This new electric water kettle is one of our most classic products. Two things have been left untouched, the IBIS effectiveness in bringing water to a fast boil and its typical oval shape designed to take up as little counter space as possible. The Bodum company got its start in Denmark in 1944, when Peter Bodum started a business wholesaling household products. Today, the Bodum brand, known for its innovative coffee press, as well as its tea makers, is still family-owned.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sound Product 7 Oct 2005
By A Customer
I ordered a black kettle, the one that arrived was a dark Graphite/Silver colour, a minor thing and as it happens it looks fine in my kitchen.
The kettle is exceptionally light to handle.
If you are after somthing that feels solid and sturdy maybe not for you.
It boils in a reasonable peiod of time, and the shape is good for a small kitchen.
The cable doesn't stow away in the base as well as i hoped and if you want to store the majority you may find it makes the base slightly unstable.
In its favour it is quiet, reliable, reasonably stylish for the cost and perfectly serviceable.
I have got a sneaking suspicion that the plastic of the kettle taints the water initialy, and in hindsight with living in a hard water area wish i had bought a brita filter kettle.

4.0 out of 5 stars cup of tea 20 Jun 2007

Not a bad machine. Nice oval shape. Fits neatly if space is issue. Base is a bit on the light side

I would say. Needs to be cast more solidly so stays put when you lift the kettle off base. Boils fine

but not super fast. Looks neat in black. The lid is matt whilst the rest of body and base is shiny

gloss. Satisfying contrast. The cord could do with being a bit longer I think. Ok if you have a spare socket in convenient place. Water tastes fine. Doesn't have that mettalic taste you get sometimes with stainless.

2.0 out of 5 stars Definitely not heavy duty! 23 July 2007
This reminds me of the lightweight kettles you get in motels except it boils much quicker and holds more water. It is also very quiet and looks OK. However it taints the water and no matter how many times we boiled it up with fresh water the taste of plastic never went away. The connection into the base on our model was not reliable...sometimes the light flickered off and the kettle stopped boiling then the light suddenly came back on and the boiling up process started again. I sent it back but did not request a replacement. Went for a more solid model instead.

4.0 out of 5 stars Smart Looking Kettle 14 July 2007
This is a very stylish looking kettle, keeping in line with other Bodum products. It boils the full 1.7 litres in under 3 mins which I think is better than alot of kettles around this price.
It is compact and unobtrusive, with a tough heat resistant casing in Black. The only reason I didnt give 5 stars is because the water level indicator is only on the right side, and I am left handed so I dont see it when facing left! otherwise excellent.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not recomended 12 May 2010
When I used this kettle steam was emitted through and around the on/off switch. This left water to settle on the switch itself. I have returned the kettle for a refund.
