This is my first french press, thanks to Brook in the comments who let me know that this product is the newest product version from Bodum. I got my press today and was very impressed, very cute and PERFECT amount for my standard UK mug. It says 3 cups, but only for those living in Tiny town. The lid system is good; you have a little lever you press near the handle to open the lid. Quality little thing, and looks rather nice just sitting in the kitchen....much more easier on the eye than the wife's bread maker that's for sure.

Now I can ditch the instants and start my journey as a 'coffee jerk'.

Great - only complaint is that the 3 cup size makes just one mug of coffee, or two mugs about 1/3rd full. Be aware of that when ordering your size, it is fine for one person but really pushing it for two. Now for praise:

Only glass and stainless steel comes into contact with the coffee - not true of other models/brands
Glass beaker does not fall out of the device when tipping it into the sink, yet it can be removed if needed
Stable, and no glass contact with bench (important when bench is solid granite) and I think it would be hard to knock the glass in any way at all because of all the chrome protecting it, and the nice plastic base absorbs shock
Lid locks down nicely, one simple twist. Saves accidental spilling if toppled, stops plunger flying out when you withdraw it for cleaning, saves spilling and splashing and many things of danger and mess. Lid has a rubber rim to create air tight seal when plunging.

Negatives:
size, choose well
rim - some people like to put a saucer over the beaker to keep it warm instead of the plunger/lid, that way to remove the saucer and scoop out a lot of the grinds before plunging. This is not possible with this model because of the raised chrome on two sides, a saucer will not seal off the top.

Other than that, they really got this one right.

My current 8-cup Pyrex cafetiere is OK but too big for one drink so I have been looking for a 3-cup (equivalent to almost one real cup) cafetiere for a few weeks now, a few I read about had problems with the beaker cracking, but this one had no mention of that. Although, if it should ever break you can buy a replacement which you cannot on some of the other Bodums.

The Bodum Chambord range gets consistently good reviews and I was going to buy the classic one until I read that they had bought out the new version. The latest incarnation is more attractive in my opinion and I like that it has a good footprint, meaning it feels nice and stable when you push the plunger. Most important to me is that it is dishwasher safe, I have been surprised at the number which are not - I thought most things these days would be.

I'm not too fussed about the sealed lid or the pouring mechanism but these are worthy features if you or someone around you is likely to knock it over. The twist-on portion of the top can be a bit tricky and is certainly a puzzle when you try to open it for the first time (and the instructions are inside).

I would definitely recommend this product, I just wish it was slightly bigger so that I could get a full mug of coffee from it.

Bought this for my boyf as a Christmas present - he loves it, it's a classic looking press and definitely screams quality. However, I bought this as a 1 "mug" coffee press (which is the perfect size) otherwise you will have very, very small 3 "cups" of coffee!

I bought this as the cafetiere I already had, kept on spurting hot coffee everywhere. This one seems not to do so, as it has a twist-on lid. It is a little fiddly at first to get the lid on but you get used to it.

Delivered very quickly. Great product . Slightly tricky to remove plunger first time and instructions on removal are inside the pot! Perfect amount of coffee for 1 large mug.

Had my last cafetiere for six years without incident until the day i smashed it that is ! Thought as it's christmas will buy a new one . This time went for the chambord and i just love it ! Ignore the comments of over design and being fiddly twisting a lid round is hardly overkill or complicated . Great design pours better than my old warhorse and as i have propper coffee cups it fills 3 cups fine if you like to fill mugs and make coffee for more than one i would go for a bigger size .

very difficult to work out how to get lid of in first instance and instructions were inside the pot so couldn't read them. However once I had worked out that the black lever needs turning to the right all was well. Nice pot good design and value for money.
