This appeared in the January sales so I bought one. I've always thought coffee is best enjoyed from a no-handle cup, so I bought a set of these. I know that doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but its because I always used to drink coffee from foam cups. I just like coffee, and this seemed to be able to recreate that 'foam-cup' experience.
Lets talk about the elephant in the room: these cups are 'lifestyle' items. That means they are expensive and pretentious, and intended for pretentious and wealthy people. If you have a designer kitchen with designer appliances and a designer family you might like one of these. Alternatively, if you like the idea of drinking coffee from a no-handle mug, you might also like one of these. Something for everyone, then.
So what do you get? Two mugs. Very small due to the doubling of the walls, with a rubber grip on the outside to stop your hand getting burned. The rubber grip appears to have been glued on, but the glue rapidly fails meaning the rubber grip tends to shift and needs constant repositioning. They are very easy to wash and dry up because it has a small interior (though designer people will use a dishwasher, of course) and seem well-made otherwise.
If you ever wondered what it would be like to drink from a designer plant-pot, look no further. It is shaped and textured like a glossy plant-pot, or perhaps something they might dig up on Tony Robinson's Time Team. It doesn't feel particularly sophisticated and unfortunately isn't much like drinking out of a foam cup, either. But the rubber grip does keep your hands cool, and once you get used to the idea of having no handle its a perfectly acceptable.
Do I recommend it? For designer-liftestyle people only, I'd say. The rest of us are better off with a set of plastic cups from Tesco. Or just fill in the holes in the bottom of a small plant pot - et voila!
