Manufacturer's Description

Bodi-Tek BackMagic – for back pain relief

The posture corrector for the whole family.

The Bodi-Tek BackMagic

The BackMagic is specifically designed to relieve back pain due to tight muscles, the loss of lumber curve and poor spinal alignment. Targeting the lumbar region of the lower back the BackMagic is an easy to use solution for spinal tightness and tension.

We all spend way too much time sitting, which negatively alters our posture by flattening our lower back and neck curves. This inevitably causes stiffness and tightness of the postural muscles that are attached to our spine. The BackMagic is an effective and portable device that can easily help to alleviate this universal problem.

Use the BackMagic twice a day for only 5 minutes and your spine will become more flexible and your posture will totally transform. You will be able to stand taller and look and feel better in just 10 minutes a day. If in any doubt read the reviews which are everywhere for this simply but effective problem solver.

Health Tip: If you have a recognised back or neck condition including any Spondylosis, Osteoporosis, Severe Arthritis, Spondylolisthesis, Spinal Lesions/Tumours, and Acute Fractures, consult your doctor before use.

Bodi Tek Backmagic Lumbar region

Part of your daily routine
BackMagic Level 1
BackMagic Level 2
BackMagic Level 3
Before using the BackMagic read the user guide to maximize the benefits.

Perform a five-minute stretch per session in your desired position. Two sessions a day are recommended, although you may enjoy using the BackMagic even three times a day. Pay special attention to your daily progress. Individual results may vary. Some users experience immediate relief and noticeable benefits, while others may take several weeks.

Start by using the BackMagic for 1 minute twice a day. Even with this minimum amount of use you should expect to feel the affects as your body adjusts. As your flexibility and posture improve you may want to advance to Level 2. Progression to Level 3 should only be considered if you are high flexible. i.e. you already do yoga, pilates, gymnastics or athletics.

Handy Tip: Relax! One of the keys to a good tension relieving stretch is relaxation. Take a deep breath, exhale gently, and let your body weight work together with gravity. You will achieve a greater stretch and arrive at a more relaxed state sooner.

How to use

The BackMagic was designed to make your life more enjoyable through better back health. Use the BackMagic to stretch muscles and relieve back pain due to tight muscles, excessive flexion, and poor spinal alignment. Incorporate it into your daily routine to achieve maximum results. The user guide goes into more detail on the various exercises and routines.

BackMagic
Get Ready

Sit with your back to the arch. Slowly lie back onto the Support Arch with your knees bent. The wide end of the unit should be positioned close to the base of your spine so that the Support Arch supports your Lumbar region of your back. Try to center your spine in the slot that is designed to cradle your spine and provide extra comfort.

BackMagic
Simple stretch position

Relax as much as possible and breath normally. With your knees bent, rest your arms at your sides. This position provides the least amount of stretch and is the easiest to do when starting out. If a greater stretch is desired, proceed to the following positions.

BackMagic
Moderate Stretch Position

Raise your arms over your head and shoulders and rest them as close to the floor as you can for an additional stretch. In time it will become easier, and you may be able to extend your arms fully and rest your elbows comfortably on the floor.

BackMagic
Maximum Stretch Position

Extend your legs and arms fully, as shown in the photo. Remove the pillow from beneath your head for the maximum amount of stretch. Feel your back, shoulder, chest and abdominal muscles stretching, and concentrate on relaxing as much as possible.

BackMagic
Roll off and recover

Roll onto your side and off the BackMagic. Sit up gradually and rest for 30 seconds before standing. Remember, you have just had a major stretch and you should allow your blood to move back down from your head to your heart, otherwise you may become dizzy.

These kind of back stretchers always looked interesting to me so I thought I'd give one a try.

When you put it on the floor and lay on it, it really doesn't look like it would do much- but boy does it- these things can really stretch your back! In fact its downright deceiving how much of a stretch one actually gets. Go for positions 2 and 3 only after you're really comfortable with position 1.

I, like others, found several things out right away. First, you'll need a pillow to support your head. I don't know how the lady in some of the pictures is able to tolerate that position- maybe she's really one of those CPR dolls you practice on? Without a pillow, your head tilts back and can make you a little dizzy. A therapist told me that this is because your vertebral arteries (which help get blood to your head) "thread" through your neck vertebrae, and in some people, when you tilt your head back too much/too long, they can get pinched somewhat which can decrease the flow of blood to your head and make you a little dizzy- so just be careful and make sure to grab a pillow before you lay down.

The other thing I found out is that you have to "play around" with the positioning. For some people who are really tight, they'll just lay down and hit it right the first time- but this won't be everybody. Expect to spend a few minutes tinkering around with it (by sliding it up and down which is easy to do) to find your sweet spot- that being where its most comfortable/where you feel the best stretch. Those who just throw the thing on the floor and just lay on it expecting miracles to happen might be a little disappointed with the product.

The back popping thing. A therapist also told me that this happens when the tiny joints in your back seperate a little- same as when you pop your knuckle. This is a good thing because the "pop" usually brings pain relief for a lot of people. And since the pop means that the joint has seperated a bit, that stretches the joint capsule (the tissue around the joint) and that means you're actually loosening things up as well. Probably the best way to get the pop is to bring your knees up towards your chest as you're laying on the extender, OR you can try laying on it, and get your feet/knees into the position like you're going to do a sit up, and then roll your knees together either to the left or right down to the floor. In any event, don't force anything, and some people's back are simply harder to pop than others depending on how/where they're tight. Either way you're still stretching out your back.

An interesting piece of equipment, the Bodi-Tek Back Magic should benefit many if used properly. One note though. The extender will stretch, relax your back, and make it more flexible- but it won't do a thing to strengthen it. For that, suggest Treat Your Own Spinal Stenosis for some good, evidence-based back exercises.

As a long time back sufferer I have to say that this is by far the best back support I have ever purchased. whilst it works okay for the advertised purpose, it is second to none as a versatile and easily portable backrest: I now have one at home (can be used comfortably when dozing off on the sofa in front of the tv!) one on my office chair and one in the car. I also use it when travelling or at the theatre, for prevention of trouble or cure as required.

I previously had a Backfriend and I have used various types of support cushion, but this leaves them all standing as well as being very competitively priced. I cannot understand why the manufacturer does not also market it for this purpose.

A number of friends and work colleagues have become converts: perhaps I should buy shares in the company...

25 years of lower back pain, occasionally debilitating, then I bought this. Hard work to start with ... pain and nausea ... but perseverance has paid off. I'm not saying it's cured my back, as I still get twinges, but I haven't stood this tall, or straight, for years. I use it every morning, but only for two or three minutes, and then any time I've exerted myself ... gardening, DIY, whatever. It might not work for you, but I figure it has to be worth 20 quid to try it. I've just bought my sister-in-law one ... time will tell if it works for her.
