Amazon.co.uk Review

Can we play it? Yes we can, as Bob the Builder has now made it to the Game Boy Color in Fix It Fun. The fun begins in Bob's yard, where he is greeted by Dizzy, Lofty, Roley and all his other best friends, all ready for some serious work. Enter Wendy's office and there's a stream of jobs just waiting to be done--in the fax machine, in the files, on the shelves. Jobs seem to be piling up everywhere, and Bob needs your help to get them done.

Scroll up and down the job sheet menu to pick a task, and whether Mrs Potts' Fence, the Town Hall Roof, feeding Pilchard or fixing a wall with Muck, it will keep little ones busy for hours. Each smiley machine has his own adventure for Bob to take part in, and the graphics are superb (as with all BBC children's games), clearly reproducing these extremely popular characters.

The controls are simple and intuitive and the enclosed instructions illustrated and clear, taking players through the games one step at a time. They also include a number of handy hints in case building doesn't come as naturally to everyone as it does to Bob.

For little ones who are pestering parents to buy them video games, this game is a great opportunity to combine education with entertainment: young children will while away long car or plane journeys quite happily, without even realising they're learning about shapes and patterns, numbers and letters, tidying up and fixing things, as well as developing their hand-to-eye co-ordination, reasoning and concentration skills. (The educational value is much the same as when children use a similar CD-ROM).

For Bob fans everywhere, or youngsters who love using their older brother's or sister's Game Boy, Bob the Builder: Fix It Fun lives up to its BBC credentials: it is safe, fun and educational, and the kind of video game every parent is looking to find. --Lucie Naylor

Bob the Builder 20 Nov 2000
Bob the Builder arrived for Daniel's 5th birthday and Daniel hasn't stopped playing since. With ten games and three difficulty levels there's loads of fun to keep him occupied. The character's are well known, the games are simple to understand and play, yet challenging and this game really gets the thumbs up from Daniel.

Bob has ten jobs to undertake before he can embark on his picnic with all his friends. Lofty has to rescue the ducks from the river, Rolly has to flatten out the road and (my favourite) Dizzy has to play catch with the apples in Farmer Pickles' orchard and much, much more.

Easy to understand and simple to play means lots and lots of fun for five year olds and great value for mum and dad.

Having a 3 year old who is wiz at gameboy games this delightful game was excellent. His apprentiship period did not last very long and he was soon working his way through the controls. Bob the builder is a perfect gift for young children, no violence or scary bits just excellent entertainment value. It helps to keep car journeys fun and gives mum and dad a bit of peace and quiet. At last a gameboy game designed for the younger end of the market. A brilliant christmas gift.

This song was brill. I may be thirteen but I know good talent when I see it (ahem). I like Neil Morrissy so that probably explains why I like the song. 2 Tumbs Fresh
