Review

‘Provides plenty of laughs as well as a personal insight into the comic genius’ (Lancashire Evening Post )

Product Description

‘There is an up-side to serious memory loss. Every couple of hours you have an entirely new circle of friends’. Comedy star Monkhouse was famous for his quick, ad-lib, one-liner jokes. Famously, he kept a joke book that hit the news headlines when it was stolen. Now, fortunately for us, we have a whole new, never-before-seen collection of Bob’s jokes. From sketches to one-liners, hilarious mottos to freaky-facts, and covering everyday subjects as diverse as restaurants, taking the car to the garage, advice for frequent fliers, and the weather, we can continue to enjoy Monkhouse’s wit and wisdom. Close personal friend, David Ismay, himself a warm-up artist, also provides compelling personal anecdotes of their time spent together over nearly forty years of friendship, set in the industry that Bob knew best: theatre. Absolutely brilliant! 26 Oct 2010
Format:Hardcover
What a fabulous insight behind the scenes of the entertainment world and Bob Monkhouse who was always on TV when I was growing up. Very nostalgic to read about the gameshows I always watched and some very funny stories of a man who my friends and family were in awe of. I especially love the games and tricks he penned and will be using them on my next evening with friends. Superb Christmas present!

A good buy! 22 Oct 2010
Format:Hardcover
A good read. Coming from 'oop North, I'd always seen Bob Monkhouse as 'smart-arsed and smarmy' but after he left the Golden Shot and first Norman Vaughan and then, very embarrassingly, Charlie Williams took over, I thought "he's not that bad, that Monkhouse". This is an easy read - lots of jokes (worth the cover price for these) and a good and surprising frank and self-effacing commentary from someone whom was obviously a close friend.

A good buy!

A superb read filled with jokes, anecdotes and behind the scenes tales of the life of one of Britain's best loved comedians. Throw in some puzzles and a few card tricks and this book will have you refering back to it long after reading it.Dave Ismay being a personal friend of Bob's for over 40 years is able to give a unique insight into the life and mind of a remarkable talent. Yes, some of the jokes are schoolboy humour, but what's wrong with that, it made me smile, titter and at times roar with laughter whilst also realising the life of a comedian is not always fun.
