Excellent NTSC DVD 9 Jan 2010
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is an excellent DVD of the Newport Festival but is unfortunately not in the PAL format that is advertised by Amazon. It is NTSC which is also available cheaper on the marketplace listings. Amazon did their best to replace this but the replacement I received was also NTSC which, although playable on most modern T.V.s requires the settings to be adjusted to accept this format. I retained the item I was sent as I do not want to be without some version of this disc. It is a real gem and captures the atmosphere of the Festival in the early sixties and also the excitement accompanying Bob Dylan's rise to fame over these vital 3 years of his life.
Highly recommended - but don't forget that misinformation about the format in the current listing (09/01/2010).

By Jazzrook TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD
This is an absolutely fascinating documentary by American film-maker Murray Lerner with stunning footage of Bob Dylan at various Newport Folk Festivals in the mid-60s showing how his music evolved from acoustic folk to electric rock. Much of the chronologically edited footage has never been seen before and Dylan's performances are utterly mesmerising.
Murray Lerner has said, "The music is a clear, lucid, isolated expression of Dylan - that's all you need". He's right, and quite simply, this magnificent 80-minute DVD is essential viewing for anyone with the slightest interest in Bob Dylan's music.
Could we now please have a DVD release of Howard Alk's brilliant NBC-TV film of Dylan's legendary 'Hard Rain' concert at Colorado State University on May 23, 1976.

great value 11 Aug 2011
Format:DVD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Obviously any Bob Dylan fan is going to want this for 3-99!!! The concert footage lasts for 83 minutes and is, as you would expect, top-notch.There is additionally a 25 minute interview with director Murray Lerner which is informative, although you probably won't watch it every time you play the dvd. There is also-very unusually- a high quality 20 page accompanying booklet with some great photos and full information on the sessions and musicians. Brilliant
