In spring, 1965, Bob Dylan, 23, a pixyish troubador, spends three weeks in England. Pennebaker's camera follows him from airport to hall, from hotel room to public house, from conversation to concert. Joan Baez and Donovan, among others, are on hand. It's the period when Dylan is shifting from acoustic to electric, a transition that not all fans, including Baez, applaud. From the opening sequence of Dylan holding up words to the soundtrack's "Subterranean Homesick Blues", Dylan is playful and enigmatic.
"This is a well-presented second look at the classic Pennebaker '60s classic. Has stood the test of time well and shows how interesting Dylan was then, off stage as well as on stage. Even if you're familiar with the original movie, this is well worth getting if you're a fan. The extra disk contains plenty of outtakes and some fine live bits that complement and illuminate the main feature. There's also a booklet containing a painstaking transcript of all the dialogue - not an easy task considering this is a documentary and not a scripted movie. Plus to round it all off there's a little flipbook of the "Subterranean Homesick Blues" video!

As soon as Subterranean Homesick Blues kicks in at the start I noticed that it's pitched higher than it should be. It remains like that throughout the whole of that first disc, the voices not sounding quite right throughout the dialogue too. I've tried it with VLC, WMP, thru my DVD/TV etc.
The second disc (65 Revisited) is fine though.. Is this the same for anybody else?!

An important item for Dylan collectors and a well made documentary film with fascinating snapshots of mid-sixties Britain (how things have changed!) Alan Price and Albert Grossman drinking Newcastle Brown Ale in a gent's tailor shop - a fairly unique scene I think! A DVD which you can go back to from time to time despite the title!
