5.0 out of 5 stars If you have one maintenance book on board, make it this one., 19 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual: How to Maintain, Repair and Improve Your Boat's Essential Systems (Hardcover)
There are lots of books that deal with aspects of boat maintenance, but Calder has just the right level of detail on almost all the areas of maintenance that you might need. He points out potential problem areas, and whilst he seems a bit over-cautious at times (I sometimes wonder if he ever actually gets to SAIL his boat), it's much better that he errs on the side of caution. We've used this book for years, and it's helped us through a complete electrical rewiring, a top-end engine overhaul and a strip and service of the marine toilet! A definite must if you can't afford yard maintenance for day to day jobs.

5.0 out of 5 stars No DIY boat owner should be without this book, 23 Jan 2002
This review is from: Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual: How to Maintain, Repair and Improve Your Boat's Essential Systems (Hardcover)
I am a professional boat builder, and boat owner, with a wealth of information available to me. Nigel Calders book is refered to on a regular basis. Some knowledge is required to obtain the best from the book. This book, together with an electrical test meter should be part of any boats equipment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A book by an engineer for engineers, 15 May 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Boatowner's Mechanical and Electrical Manual: How to Maintain, Repair and Improve Your Boat's Essential Systems (Hardcover)
This book is a must for any boatwoner that is technically competent and who carries out his own repairs and installations. The best I have seen yet.
The only fault is that most of the products and trade names that he refers to tend not to be available outside USA.
