I recently took a book on holiday with me that had been sitting in the 'ought to read' section of my bookshelf for a while. By the fourth day of my holiday I had finished the other two books that I had excitedly purchased at the airport and I reluctanctantly pulled out 'Boat to Boardroom' from the bottom of my rucksack. The prospect of reading a business 'team-building' book whilst I was on holiday certainly did not fill me with much joy; however, it was either that or an overpriced, 3-day old copy of the 'SUN' newspaper from the hotel shop.
What's the expression?....'don't judge a book by it's cover' - how wrong I had been to leave this book on the shelf, or indeed at the bottom of my rucksack for so long. If ever there was a book to inspire you to do something with your life that will change you for ever, this is the one. Alex and Paula take us on not only on an amazing sailing challenge but also their personal journeys of discovery, with a story that has the reader gripped from page one. Whether you are someone who has always dreampt of having a life adventure or a CEO of a large business, this book will inspire you. I booked my trip to climb Kilimanjaro today!

A great account of the last of the Global Challenge races. I was involved with one of the earlier races and it was a sad day when the opportunity for anyone to compete in a round the world yacht race came to an end. Alex and Paula take you through the remarkable story of 'Stelmar' - their leg from Buenos Aires to Wellington is the stuff of legend - and relate their experiences to broader application in everyday life and business in a very practical way. It's true that sailing is a great leveller and I've seen many of the things they talk about happening on boats. The section on advanced teamwork is spot on. Essential reading for all wannabee yacht crew - I shall be giving a copy to all of our skippers (I run a fleet of sailing yachts). One key lesson to be learned is never send a reluctant volunteer to the top of the mast unless you're carrying an umbrella - you'll have to read the book to find out why...

This book is a fantastic "hidden gem" bringing vividly to life the highs and lows of a round the world yacht race before applying the learnings, human attitudes and discplines from aboard the boat to those that are required to be successful in business.

This is a thoroughly engaging book which brings a whole new perspective on the usual subject of business "leadership".A great read.
