“Elli Lisbon is the Stephanie Plum of the the South!” – Krista Davis, New York Times Bestselling Author of the Domestic Diva Mysteries

As director of the Ballantyne Foundation on Sea Pine Island, SC, Elliott Lisbon scratches her detective itch by performing discreet inquiries for Foundation donors. Usually nothing more serious than retrieving a pilfered Pomeranian. Until Jane Hatting, Ballantyne board chair, is accused of murder. The Ballantyne’s reputation tanks, Jane’s headed to a jail cell, and Elliott’s sexy ex is the new lieutenant in town.

Armed with moxie and her Mini Coop, Elliott uncovers a trail of blackmail schemes, gambling debts, illicit affairs, and investment scams. But the deeper she digs to clear Jane’s name, the guiltier Jane looks. The closer she gets to the truth, the more treacherous her investigation becomes: a brutal attack on her own suspect and the murder of a witness. With victims piling up faster than shells at a clambake, Elliott realizes she’s next on the killer’s list.

4.0 out of 5 stars PG 13 tops........ 20 May 2013

Before you write this book off because of the reviewer who said it was "R rated", you really should read the preview. Because honestly, the first scene is about as risque as the book gets. R rated? Not even close, IMHO. As far as language - the main character does have a fondness for the s word, but it is not overly used. And I think I remember the f bomb being dropped maybe once.

I enjoyed this cozy and it's cast of characters. I look forward to another installment, however, I do agree with the reviewer who gave it 4 stars because of the two love interests. I'd prefer to see the obvious relationship develop and not force another suitor into the picture to complicate matters. That's been done to death.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun New Cozy 10 May 2013

I must say I was a bit hesitant to read this book, but I am very glad that I did. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Elliott is a very likable amateur sleuth. She is an expert at negotiating little "problems" on behalf of the board members at her work. She doesn't portray herself as a know it all--she is flawed character, which I absolutely adore!!! She has a huge fear of germs, she gets into a food fight a rival and helps her friend "stalk" her boyfriend.

The best part of all is that I actually could not figure out who the murderer was until the very end. It was a character I figured that I would be seeing in many more sequels to this book.

I'm not going to go into deep detail in this book, except to say that the vast majority of supporting characters are charming. The only reason I have given it 4 stars is that the author has jumped on the bandwagon in terms of many cozy writers, by introducing two romantic interests for Elliott. Personally, I must say this aspect is very tiresome for me. I have stopped reading cozies series when the author has taken this route. The characters start becoming one becomes the typical "stable, steady and boring guy" versus the "exciting, sexy and unreliable" guy. The female protagonist then ends up looking like an indecisive idiot. I am an avid romance reader and I don't mind a bit of romance in the book, but I read mysteries to figure out who committed the crime, not to see who the main character is dating in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful 18 May 2013

What a fun read! Not only was this a riveting mystery (I could not have predicted the outcome), but it has the likeable, clutzy Elli Lisbon as the central character, some romantic tension (though hardly R rated as a previous reviewer warns), the best friend who is willing to dive into the deep end with Elli (hope to see more of Sid in future books), and a number of other eccentric characters. I'm just thrilled that I stumbled upon this book & took a chance with it. Now I'm hooked and will be looking for more books because this needs to be a series. Kendel Lynn could be the next Janet Evanovich if she continues this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun Read 21 April 2013
By D. Love - Published on
This is an engaging read that grabbed my attention from the start with Elliott's desire to prove Jane's innocence and to best the lead detective by being one step ahead and it's those encounters that made for a fun read as Elli's discreet inquiries landed her in one mishaps after another in the pursuit of a killer.

The author did a good job in delivering a well-written whodunit that was entertainingly pleasing. There were plenty of suspects that kept me guessing throughout most of this lighthearted drama and I loved how everything came together when I knew exactly who the killer was. Elliott is a wonderful character and I like the possibilities of more escapades with obtaining her PI license and handling discreet inquiries for her employer. The added bonus of sexy Nick is a plus and I would love to see that relationship blossom. With witty banter, a likable cast of characters and a visually appealing setting, this is a great start to what I hope is a long running series.

An Elliott Lisbon Mystery (#1)

This is the first book by author Kendel Lynn that I have read but hopefully not the last. I loved Elliott Lisbon.
She is smart, funny and faints during class. She is the director of Ballantyne Foundation. She does a little of this and that.
She is working on getting her P.I. license very slowly. She is always worried about germs. Elliott, Monk and my mom would get along fine.
At a foundation party her old boyfriend Nick Ransom of 20 years ago shows up and kisses her. Then leaves with his date. The president of the board is making threats against another board member.

The day after the party Elliott goes to another board member's house to help set up for his board meeting, and finds Leo dead.
After she runs out screaming she calls the police. The police detective turns out to be Nick Ransom. His prime suspect is Jane chairman of board for the Ballantyne foundation.

Elliott's billionaire boss is out of the country calls her and asks her to help Jane and find Leo's killer. Ransom does not want Elliott to mess in his investigation at all. Everywhere Elliott goes she runs into Nick and his girlfriend.

Elliott finds out some clues, gets into a food fight, is threatened and runs from Nick and hides from him. Which is hard to do because he bought the house next door to Elliott. Her male friend that is just a friend decides after seeing her and Nick fight decides that he wants them to start dating.

The mystery keeps the suspense up. I did guess the killer right but not the reason why. The relationships between characters was good. did not want to put the book down till I had finished.

I hope their are a lot of Elliott Lisbon Mysteries to come. I was given this ebook to read and asked to give an honest review of it from Netgalley.
