Excellent short book absolutely jam packed with solid theory,

This review is from: The Bluffer's Guide to Relationships: Bluff Your Way In Relationships (Bluffer's Guides (Oval)) (Paperback)
I been meaning to write a review for this book for a while, it has a bit of a laddish or sleazey suggesting cover art which is unfortunate because it really contains as much solid social relationship theory in a condensed format as I've seen.
The short book (it could easily fit in your back pocket like most of the bluffers guide series) breaks down into Introduction; Statistics about Relationships; The Life Cycle of a Relationship: Kerckhoff and Davis' Filter Theory, Thibaut and Kelly's Four-stage Model, Homans' Principleof Satiation, Murstein's Stimulus-Value-Role Theory, Sprecher's Self Disclosure; Maintaining a Relationship: Mindia and Baxter, Brown and Harris, Buunk and Hupka, Yip; Theories of Love: Freud, Maslow, Lee, Limerance, Hendrick and Hendrick, Byrne's Formula for Love, Sternberg's Triangular Theory of Love, Companionate and Passionate Love; Theories about Relationships: The Cave, Men Solve, Women Wallow, Men are Literal, Women are Emotional; Men are Mono, Women are Multi, Men Map, Women Picture, Men are Strong, Women are Loving; Freud on Relationships; Problems in Studying Relationships: Huston and Levinger, Berscheid, Social Representations; Starting a Relationship: E-mail flirting, Internet Dating, Lonely Hearts Columns, Speed Dating, Dark Dating, Silent Dating, Supermarket Check-Outs, Other Methods of Dating; Ending a Relationship: The causes of relationship breakdown, patterns of relationship breakdown, effects of relationship termination; Relationships around the world: Tibetan Polyandry, Matrilineal Societies, Milk Siblings, Closely Defined Relatioships, Keeping it in the Family, Arranged Marriages, Trobriand Pregnancies, Differences within the Western World, Extra-Marital Sex. The chapters are excellent, sometimes just a paragraph or a page but none the less perfectly formed and paced for light but also enlightening reading, there is a fantastic glossary too and a short piece about the author. Of all the books in this series this is probably the best, much better than any of the other three that I've read and kept Bluff Your Way at University (The Bluffer's guides), Occult (Bluffer's Guides) and The Bluffer's Guide to Philosophy (Bluffers Guides). Its very readable and at some points funny so shouldnt just be restricted to an academic or theory orientated readership, although I would also say its not self-help or dating readers material either.
