Biography

Lazy Lester (aka Leslie Johnson) has been called a "National Treasure," the "High Sheriff of Louisiana" and "a nut." As one of the key creators of the South Louisiana swamp blues sound in the 1950s, Lester has been often imitated but never duplicated. Blues fans worldwide prize his early singles on the Excello label that were recorded in Lake Charles, Louisiana. ... Read more in Amazon's Lazy Lester Store

A week ago during his UK tour I saw Lazy Lester live with the Bayou Brothers band, they are all from Louisiana. Lazy is 79 years old, plays great guitar, harmonica and sings all done pretty good. His style is true Louisiana swamp blues, get a groove and hold it in there and enjoy the ride.Live it's worth catching him, but this album is as near as yu'll get otherwise, twelve groovin' tracks with Jimmie Vaughan on guitar, and for me anything with him on is just always good, one of the blues greats without doubt, and on this release he gets the whole band into the swamp mood and it grooves throughout. One track is just pure Lazy Lester, some funky guitar work and a scratch board by the sound of it,down home and raw but worth the album for it.Chock full of great songs, the funky swamp stuff the odd slower one for good measure, all served up with the very best ingredients to produce an album of lasting pleasure that will soon get those feet tapping big time.JV has got that Louisiana sound off to a tee, and backs the great man without ever trying to add to it and that's for me why it's such an outstanding album, one any blues fan will play again and again. But hold on apart from the one album we get a bunch of superb tracks from another one as well, seven wonderful swamp magic music from, 'All Ovewr You' and gives us an album of nineteen tracks and not a dough one among them. All recoded in Texas, down there in Austin, so the state of groovy boogie blues gives Lazy Lester all he needs to produce this really solid and enjoyable set. You ask how did he become known as Lazy well,he has a slow and lazy style of speaking,as I found out myself chatting to him, and the name was given to him by Jay Miller in whose band he played in the 50's.His real name out of interest is Lester Johnson,he makes music that's just great. 5 STARS

Blues Stop Knockin' Any good blues fan will know a good album when they hear it,and this one is good one for all collectors. Lazy Lester is a good down to earth blues man who will hit you, with a gutsy sound which has not been heard of in a while. If you want this album then buy it for your collection and you will not be dissapointed.
