Johnny Norris 13 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
I saw Johnny Norris play at an event this year and was amazed at his guitar playing so decided to buy his book. I've see a number of his compositions used by local teachers and bought the book to pick up some tips as I am a keen but limited guitar player. The instruction is really spot on for a blues novice or indeed anyone looking to expand their general guitar skills. A very good investment for those keen to learn.

I think this is a great little book.
It complements the Keith Wyatt book very well Beyond Basics: Acoustic Blues Guitar (Ultimate Guitar).

This book consists entirely of "complete pieces", which he breaks down and explains on the cd, as well as through use of diagrams/boxes. The pieces start easy and gradually get more complex, and also more satisfying to play. The nice thing is, that you can use bits of these pieces as musical ideas that you can throw into other songs you might play. Having said that, some of the later pieces (ie more difficult ones) stand up well on their own.

You probably need to be at least an intermediate guitarist to get the full benefit of these tunes.

I disagree with the other reviewer about the speed of the songs on two counts. Firstly, he actually starts out by breaking the pieces down and talking you through the different bits, whilst playing/illustrating them very slowly. Second, the final "up to speed" version actually gives you an idea of what the tune should sound like.

Well done, good book, I hope, Mr Norris, there's more to come!

An excellent book and priced very reasonable. I would not say that it is for beginners though. When you pick this book up, it would not take you long to sound really good at the guitar!
