Album Description
Trumpeter Damon Brown's debut album for Jazz House features him in quartet, quintet and sextet formats. The line-ups contain some popular established musicians along with some fresh young players. On tenor saxophones are Tim Garland and an emerging young Italian player Renato D'Aiello. Jonathan Gee, Jim Watson or Leon Greening occupy the piano chair, with Arnie Smogyi and Ben Hazleton sharing bass playing duties. Drummers Winston Clifford and Sebastian Rochford (who would later find fame in the group Acoustic Ladyland) anchor the rhythm section.
The album features eight of Brown's own compositions plus his rendition of "Mack The Knife", which is always well received on his live gigs. Brown's music is very much in the classic hard-bop tradition and this studio album goes a long way to showcasing the energy, enthusiasm and intelligence he applies to his live gigs.
