Way Cool !! 25 April 2009
This course is very well presented. using an easy to read book, information and backing tracks on cd, well produced instructional DVD's, and free membership to their website (again very well presented and a lot of extra info). The introduction on the DVD is exciting and engages immediately, the video lessons are clear and easy to follow, all parts of the course match across the formats book cd dvd etc. This course emphasises technique, as against teaching particular songs and seems very comprehensive with many riffs and blues scales to practice. I have bought a few teach yourself books in the past, and to be honest the song choices for beginers in these books were for the most part un-inspiring, and what makes it worse is that some of the tutors know this too and appologise for the fact. As a teacher I know if you cannot retain a students interest by engaging them, lessons become a chore. Rarely will learning guitar be a compulsory activity, we do it for fun pleasure and the challenge of mastering a difficult instrument. Are their better courses out there? probably! are there better more comprehensive courses at this price probably not!! My advice, if you really want to play blues and are a beginner, give it a go.

Somewhat disappointed 12 Feb 2011
By LZ
The book does not contain very much in the way of explanation. So as a course it's not very in-depth although it takes you from beginner to playing quite complex blues most of the information is to be found in the DVDs which are included with the book. However, these have long introductions with short sections of tutorial embedded. I've seen better video tutorials on you tube. More exercise would have been useful. You could get to the end of the book being able to play everything in it but I'm not sure you would be able to play much else if you relied on the this book and the DVDs that come with it,

Very good book. It is clearly laid out and is easy to follow. It also comes with two CDs and two DVDs to illustrate how things are supposed to sound.Strangely, whenever I play the practice pieces they never sound anything like they do on the CDs/DVDs. That might be a lack of ability on my part? Nah.
Buy it, you won't regret it.
