It seems like Rick Derringer has been on the rock & roll scene forever -- actually, it's only been since 1965, which makes him one of the more enduring veterans of his generation. Derringer's work with his band the McCoys in his midteens, highlighted by the bubblegum anthem "Hang On Sloopy," gave him a claim to low-level rock & roll immortality, and his subsequent ... A good album to listen to right through. A few standout moments to grab the attention but works well as a background noise.

Time flies so still think of this as a recent release. Prefer it to Rick's last, which had the great Sometimes and If 6 Were 9 but the rest was not as enjoyable as Deluxe.

More please Mr Derringer.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you buy this Cd, you will pawn your guitar 28 Aug 1999
By B.D. Shapiro - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Let me warn you - if you are a guitar player and fancy yourself a good guitar player - and if you purchase this gem of a CD - you will pawn your guitar and live in misery. Why? Because Rick Derringer is better than you ever will be. Go ahead - practice. Quit your job and play all day every day. It's hopeless. This unheralded blues GOD can play, sing, write produce and his live show is just tremendous. I hope every little mundane Stevie and BB buys this CD and I promise you - if you are pragmatic in the least - you will rid yourself of your instrument and get a decent day job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better blues guitar than Clapton 10 July 2003
By Raul Garcia - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
If you like guys like Johnny Winter or Steve Ray Vaughan, you will emjoy this CD. Derringer guitar is one of the best around, he has been very underrated in the ranks. Buy this CD and listen carefully.

4.0 out of 5 stars Deluxe Blues from a Fine Player 19 Feb 2010
By eclectic shopper - Published on Amazon.com

Rick is in fine form in this 1998 effort. I would consider this to be one of his best recordings as a solo performer. The guitar work is especially good and
refreshing to listen to. Some of the songs show Rick's jazzier side and are really well done. Very nice. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BLUES CD 19 Sep 2003
By HANS D HARMS - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A great choice of covers and awesome versions by a great guitarist that sounds as if he understands the blues.DERRINGER doesn't mess with the basic formula, instead he lets his outstanding guitar work do the talking. DERRINGER plays with total control and almost flawless technique. He could have spoiled it by including pyrotechnics alien to the blues ( I am sure he could be as showy as the next axe slinger ), but refrains and keeps everything tastefull and fairly true to the best of the originals. ( not many can play as well as he can ). It must be said that his vocals are OK, but no more than that. His choice of material is mostly brilliant, but a couple of tracks are questionable ( RUNNIN BLUE / FUNKY MUSIC / STILL ALIVE AND WELL ).However KEY TO THE HIGHWAY / BLUES DELUXE / KILLING FLOOR and HIDE AWAY 1962 are worth the price alone. This is on par with the best blues offerings from GARY MOORE and should be added to your collection of outstanding electric blues masters.
