5.0 out of 5 stars Love Peter Green 9 Aug 2012
By P Rees
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
A nice selection of blues standards. Great acoustic and slide, harmonica and Peter Green's
smokey voice.

Fave track 'Help me through the Day'. Lovely melodic, sparse lead guitar part,
but wonder if it is actually Nigel playing ?

Still got the PG Splinter Group sound though and a bargain at the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD SET OF CLASSIC BLUES 1 Sep 2012
By pete clack TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
This album was originally only available on from the bands website or at gigs. outside of the bands official releases they recorded over a few days this very nice collection of some blues covers that is a standout album with Peter Green (surely one of the finest blues guitarists ever) in really top form. The version here of B B King's 'When It All Comes Down' is one of my favourite versions of this song, and of course the band did a UK tour with the great man. From excellent versions of 'Little Red Rooster' the Howlin' Wolf song,to songs like 'Honey Bee','Don't Start Me Talking','Honest I Do' and 'Crawlin' King Snake' you know your getting some very fine blues played by a master of his craft and band. The rhythm section of Roger Cotton on keys,Larry Tolfee on drums and Pete Stroud on bass, give each track depth and quality throughout. This is an album that you'll play again and again enjoying it every time.A British blues classic and now available from Amazon what more could you want.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blues rule the game 26 Oct 2012
Format:Audio CD
Of all the Sixties UK blues players Peter Green was possibly the most gifted. A fluid, atmospheric player who did not rely soley on speed or power playing, Green combined soulful playing with genuinely soulful vocals. Tough but tender, it seemed every note every word was pulled from somewhere deep inside. Green did not deal in musical or lyrical cliches. What was inside seemed quite troubled. Plus he wrote amazing songs like 'Black Magic Woman' and 'Oh Well'.
This collection finds Green at home - post breakdown - in the genre that defined him and while the fire of youth blazes less fiercely it is a very agreeable collection of well executed blues standards. That said it is great to know Green is still out there making music and this album stands up very well. At such a ridiculously great price, it is well worth investigation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classy blues CD
Peter Green was truly something else, and even now plays with a silkiness that is "out of the ordinary".

Maybe for the purist - but a good buy nonetheless.

Peter Green's voice is shot on this album however if we consider that the album was almost recorded as live cuts I can forgive how he sounds, but the playing from everyone is good... Read more
