Product Description

Album Description

Ace’s second and final volume of Jimmy McCracklin’s Modern recordings focuses primarily on his second spell with the company and draws largely from sessions cut in Northern California in 1954. As well as featuring at least one take of every master McCracklin cut in his later Modern sessions, the CD also features 6 sides – 2 apiece – by Lafayette Thomas, Johnny Parker and Pee Wee Parham, all members of McCracklin’s Blues Blasters during this period. In addition to all this, several previously unissued alternate takes of masters from McCracklin’s earlier Modern sessions are included – all of which are being released here for the first time! These are some of the best recordings of this still active blues legend’s long career (he’s still performing and making records in his 80s!). Those who bought Ace’s prior volume of McCracklin’s Modern recordings will jump at the chance to ‘complete the set’ with a CD that, if anything, is even better than the first one!

Format:Audio CD
2004 compilation for the blues pianist is the final installment of his recordings from the early 1950s for the Modern label. 24 tracks drawn largely from sessions cut in Northern California in 1954 plus material from members of McCracklin's Blues Blasters, Lafayette Thomas, Johnny Parker, & Pee Wee Parham. Includes several previously unissued alternate takes. Includes 8-page booklet with extensive liner notes & memorabilia.
The whole face of Popular Music was changing at this time....early R&B, Chicago Jump Blues, King Records all holding their breath....and at just over 30 years old Jimmy is full of vitality and is moving with the times, from the Blues towards the birth of Rock'n Roll. His seminal recording of "The Walk" is two years away, and his rebirth with Stax won't be until he's nearly 50. This is a great artist entering his prime.
Over a tenure spanning 7 decades, McCracklin's sides have been released on the most prominent of R&B labels, such as Modern, Checker, Mercury, Stax, Specialty, Peacock, Imperial, and Black Top. Other career highlights include: making the first appearance by a black artist on American Bandstand, receiving the Pioneer Award for Lifetime Achievement from the Rhythm n' Blues Foundation in 1991, and playing every major Blues and Jazz festival in the world. Any dedicated Blues and/or Soul fan should make a point of getting their hands on many of the 30 albums and nearly hundred singles that Jimmy McCracklin has recorded. It's well worth the effort. Make this part of the list.
