5.0 out of 5 stars A really great portable navigation device, 1 May 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: Bluemedia PNA 150 SAT Car Navigation (Electronics)
I bought my BM 150 after nearly two years of research and nailbiting oohing and aahing! In the end it came down to a choice between the BM and the Tomtom Go. Bm won on the grounds that it is cheaper, the Navigon software is lauded just about everywhere you look and (at least in Germany where I bought mine), the unit comes with maps covering Western Europe. Oh and it fits snugly into your pocket as opposed to the tv shaped Go! The map point shouldn't be underestimated when buying any navigation unit. A single country can set you back 100, but with the BM you can roam everywhere. On an early test from Germany to the UK, the unit coped fantastically with Germany, Belgium, France and the UK. The maps are fantastically easy to read and the system is truly idiot proof. There must be some sponsorship deal going with McDonalds though, because fast food freaks will never miss those arches wherever they are! But again these are just some of the symbols that line the roads with petrol stations etc.. Minus points: the unit only comes in one operating language and the spoken instructions give you no choice between a female or male voice, but that is a small thing. Occasionally the instructions come late, or the unit jumps ahead of itself if say you are held up at lights, but again this is no major problem. The Navteq maps are nicely laid out and as with most systems, if you just look at the directional arrow in the corner and listen to the instructions you can't go wrong. One other point; this is a dedicated system or PNA, if you want the same software on a PDA or one of those little palm top computers it exists; the advantage here (as far as I know) is that the Navigon software allows you to cut your own maps say from Germany to Belgium, which avoids having to manually change SD cards at the border. Plus I believe you can choose from a few languages for the operating system and spoken instructions. But I wanted a stand alone system and after three months with it and a fair bit of travelling in Europe I am still delighted.
