But it seems that everyone is very busy, and she is worried no one will be around on her special day. She confides in her best friends, Honey the dormouse and Evie the hedgehog, that she would love a picnic by the Babbling Brook, but even they seem unsure whether they'll be able to make it. As the big day arrives, will Florence's celebration be everything she hopes for?

I bought this book for my daughters a couple of weeks ago and we read it together. We couldn't put it down and loved it. The book has a lovely cover which pulls out to reveal a secret picture, as well as having a map of Bluebell Woods inside the front cover. There are also some lovely pictures inside.
My daughters absolutely loved the story and the characters - Bluebell Woods is home to a wide range of woodland creatures! I thought that the writing was very good and at the end of each chapter we all wanted to keep reading to find out what happened next. We will definitely look out for the other books in the series as this was definitely one of the best books my daughters have read this year. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with girls aged between five and eight!
My daughter (aged 7) loved this book, and so did I. We read it at bedtime over eight nights, one chapter per night, and she was really eager to go to bed so she could hear the next instalment! It's a heartwarming story about four animal friends, and it gives a real sense of the countryside in spring. It's well-written and the illustrations are lovely, too.
I'm definitely going to buy others in the series for my daughter, and then we'll lend them to her 6 year old cousin who's just started this book and is enjoying it just as much as my daughter did.
I'm very close to finishing this with my 4 year old. She has been reading me a few chapters every day for the last couple of days. The characters are endearing and it doesn't have the repetative formula of Rainbow Magic for example. My daughter's reading age is twice her numerical age, but the vocabulary used is enough to challenge her, yet the content is fine for her much younger maturity level. We'll certainly be looking out for others in the series soon!
