Manufacturer's Description

With rich audio, unsurpassed call clarity and industry best wind noise reduction the BlueAnt Q2 is the best sounding Bluetooth headset ever built.

This smart Bluetooth headset comes packed with more advanced features than any other headset on the market today. BlueAnt Q2 has expanded the comprehensive voice command set that enables mobile users to easily pair, configure and control their device as well as make and receive calls. When the phone rings, users simply say “Answer” or “Ignore.” Making calls is equally simple, users only have to say “Phone Commands” to activate their phone’s voice-dialing features. With the Q2, mobile users now can take advantage of the “caller name announce” feature that reads the name of incoming callers from a database of up to 2,000 mobile phone contacts, which are transferred automatically when the phone and headset are paired.

Additionally, BlueAnt has taken noise reduction to the next level with the introduction of Wind Armour Technology™. Based on years of research into wind noise performance, this unique solution combines patent-pending design features with BlueAnt’s advanced noise cancellation software to provide wind noise reduction at up to 22 miles per hour, which is twice the industry average. Dual microphones that utilize BlueAnt’s Voice Isolation Technology, as well as a precision-tuned 10mm speaker enable the Q2 to deliver unsurpassed call clarity and rich booming audio.

The BlueAnt Q2 provides seamless access to stock quotes, movie times, weather, sports, news and traffic updates through tight integration with Microsoft’s Bing 411 service. Additionally, the Q2 supports a free, downloadable Android™ application, which enables any Android 2.0+ handset to play text messages through the Q2 headset. BlueAnt also has partnered with Vlingo to ensure compatibility with its SafeReader application for hearing both text and email messages on Blackberry® smartphones and Android 2.0+ devices equipped with a Q2 headset.

Other advanced capabilities on the BlueAnt Q2 headset include A2DP audio streaming for listening to music, podcasts and turn-by-turn directions from a GPS navigation application while multipoint functionality lets mobile users connect and conduct calls on two mobile phones simultaneously. The Q2 utilizes BlueAnt’s Simply Connect technology, which talks users through the setup and pairing process without reading the manual.

The Q2 is firmware upgradable and comes with a two year manufacturer warranty.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Although not a company I am very familiar with when talking about Bluetooth headsets, BlueAnt has been creating headsets for a while now. Included with the very stylish looking box are 5 different ear moulds, an ear hook, carrying pouch, an adapter, USB cable, and of course the usual manuals & instructions.

Upon first glance, BlueAnt's headset looks like most others, but closer inspection reveals many impressive features; The biggest difference to me was the sound quality, with both transmission & reception very good indeed. An odd decision is the location of the power switch (located on the inside rear of the headset) This makes it almost impossible to turn the headset on and off while it is being worn! Durghh! Also, the switch has a sleek finish and is almost completely recessed into the headset. This made it quite difficult at times to actually turn the power switch on & off.

Both the battery life and the range of the BlueAnt are excellent. I got an average talk time of about 4 & a half hours and in terms of range, I was able walk about within approx 25ft of the phone. This is quite good as other headsets I have used have not managed half of this before you start getting considerable amounts of static. Equally impressive is the headsets ability to "read" text messages - very handy on very long car journeys! (Bit annoying at times as it couldn't read abbreviations, so LOL would be read out as LOL and not as "Laugh out Loud" - if your friends use LOTS of abbrevaitions & text talk then it can make some messages almost impossible to understand!) The voice commands also seemed clear and responsive; when you receive a call the headset announces "Call from (whoever) Answer or ignore?" To answer the call, you simply say "answer" with no button pushing required. Nice.

Overall this is a solid Bluetooth headset. It has a lot of extra features that other headsets lack and is extremely comfortable to wear (well it would be with a choice of 5 ear moulds to choose from!). With it being an offence to use a mobile phone whilst driving, it is VERY tempting to sneak a quick peek at a text message whilst you are stationary at a set of traffic lights, so it is a very welcome feature for heavy texters to have a headset that can read oit aloud any incoming text messages to the user. That being said though, I think this is a little overpriced but obviously if you shop around, you should be able to find this a bit cheaper!

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
Whilst this headset boasts the same sort of specs as the jawbone, there are a few differences.
Firstly its bigger. Also it comes with some software depending on what kind of device you have.
If you have a HTC desire for example, you can download two bits from the market place for free.
One however is meant for the older model, and clearly hasnt been updated. The second is designed to read you text messages, act as a voice command for calls, navigation etc.
This all sounds great, until you forget the command prompts for example, you have to say "check battery" to check how much battery life you have. I kept saying battery and got nowhere :( . It does understand you, which is great for those who have problems with voice command devices.

The text to speech bit, where you can send a text message to somebody just by saying " TEXT: JOHN MESSAGE: WHOSE GOT THE KEYS TO MY BIMMA?" however it doesnt really work properly. You have to wait for it to find your contact, and then say MESSAGE and whatever you want to say, otherwise it will spend ages trying to find a contact. Also naturally some words arent in its dictionary including slang words.

I used the ear hook, which gives the feeling that the headset will fall off, but it doesnt, so far.

One thing interesting is how it comes in the SAME packaging as the Jawbone icon, its the same box only different companies.
Its loud, you can hear everything, just be sure not to put it on the maximum volume as it will hurt your ears, also music sounds good too, a little bit of base in there!.
I dont like the power button, its too small to switch on and off, you have to use your finger nail.

There are some extra features, none of which are for us in the UK.

I think you might as well get the Jawbone, it looks nicer and is smaller.

Handsfree 30 Dec 2010

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
I've been using this widget for a couple of months now and i have to say i'm impressed. First of all it is very good looking, it's sleek and looks right at home when in ear. Coming with several rubber ear peices of various dimensions, and an hear hook that can be reversed so it can live in either ear, there aren't any problems for those with odd ears or the lefties amongst us.

Sound quality is excellent, on par with my phone. There is no signal degredation over the considerable transmission distance (i've got 8 meters or so, inside a house), and battery life is good for several hours worth of calls. The charger is one of these universal mini USB jobs, which seem to be more and more common. Although you don't get a mains charger (only a USB cable), the fact it is a universal jack means you can just slap it into any other similar charger you have.

One feature i do like is the voice recognition feature. You check the battery, connect the phone and a myriad of other features via voice commands. You can also attach voice commands to your phonebook, so you just have to say 'call XXX' and it will dial. Brilliant for on the road, but i will admit i've been having some trouble getting it to work with anything other than a clear flat voice, after some training.

This is easily the best hands free i've ever had, it only loses the last star because the voice recognition is a bit haphazard at times, but this is common with many voice recognition technologies still, so i can't really complain. Well recommended.
