This review is from: Blue (Audio CD)
Sad that Blue - the original Blue that is - are more likely to be remembered as the band who unsuccessfully sued the 'Boy Band' Blue over their name. This Blue featured the guitar playing and songwriting talents of Hugh Nicholson, then late of Marmalade, and bassist Ian MacMillan and drummer Timi Donald. This, their first album, was originally released on Robert Stigwood's RSO label in 1973, and I recall that BBC Radio 1 deejay John Peel used to play tracks from it. It's a very well-crafted album (if a little under-produced), but there are some lovely songs herein, 'Sunset Regret', the rocker 'Little Jody', and 'Red Light Song' being but three highlights. The band released the album, and their others on their own label, but they're very hard to get hold of - but if you can get 'em, they're well worth it. To me, the debut is the best, and a very rewarding listen.
