About the Author

Gillian Neale began collecting blue-and-white pottery after inheriting a bowl in the "Italian" pattern from her grandmother. She established her own antiques business in the early 1980s and now from her base in Aylesbury deals exclusively in blue-and-white wares. She is a member of the British Antique Dealers' Association and spends much of her time attending major vetted antiques fairs across Britain. Gillian has given talks on blue-and-white pottery and has also appeared as an expert on BBC1's Going for a Song. sales points

Gillian Neale captures the true history of Staffordshire English pottery between 1800-1900. Really fascinating tips and facts about this subject. If you have a piece of pottery that you think is worth something then I suggest you locate this book and seek out Gillian's advice. Well worth the money!

5.0 out of 5 stars Small book but with good information 18 Feb 2012
Format:Paperback
A very useful quick reference guide, although prices seem to reflect the USA market. Good varied illustrations, a useful book for a Blue and White collector.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some Use 26 Jan 2013

I was given this book by a well meaning individual who did not know I possessed twelve books on blue and white. Being the most meagre in content I thought it would be of no use. I found it earned its keep just for a couple of illustrations showing that items regularly being sold as miniature chamberpots were actually spitoons and could be differentiated by the width of the rim. Perhaps a tenuous example of learning something new and useful, but even the skimpiest reference work might teach a lesson.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blue & White Pottery 15 July 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is set up to accomodate the beginning collector as well as the experienced. Found among its 64 pages are an introduction to blue and white pottery, guidlines for care and repair, a list of dealers, an index, a glossery, and suggested reading lists. Most of all the great color pictures and pricing guidelines make for interesting reading. Heavier cover and glossy pages make it a permanent part of a research library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Intro to Blue and White 4 April 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Lots of information and pictures, written in a breezy, informative, energetic style. I learned a minimum of one new thing on every page. I only wish there were more pages. The pictures are good but too small, as is the caption print. I don't understand why the English produce their outstanding guides to antiques in such small formats. Full of tips on how to spot subtle defects and repairs, and not-so-obvious features that can enhance or detract from value. The American edition has price information in US dollars. Get this book and read it and it will add to your enjoyment of your collection or get you started on one!
