Product Description

A David Lynch double. In 'Blue Velvet' Lynch peels back the outer layers of smalltown America to reveal a perverse and surreal underbelly. Kyle MacLachlan stars as naive young Jeffrey Beaumont, who becomes involved in murder, voyeurism, sado-masochism and a terrifying evil after he discovers a severed ear in a deserted field. Isabella Rossellini plays a nightclub singer who Beaumont follows after his dicovery of the ear, who is ensnared in a brutal relationship with the psychopathic Frank (Dennis Hopper). Whilst 'Wild at Heart' is a bizarre, twisted, comedic homage to 'The Wizard of Oz'. Madly in love couple Sailor (Nicolas Cage), an ex-con, and Lulu (Laura Dern), are on the run from both the law and Lulu's mother. However, their attempt to leave one life for another leads them to some of the weirdest people and places in America.

Format: VHS Tape
Blue Velvet is in typical Lynch fashion, an unnervingly brilliant and strange film. But, opposed to more puzzling films such as Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway, Blue Velvet is much less confusing.
Without giving too much away, we follow the story of two innocently unaware adolescents, the main character Jeffrey aided by his girlfriend(Sandy) who happens to be daughter of the local police officer. Jeffrey becomes drawn into the curious background of an abused lady (Dorothy) and the reason behind his finding of a severed ear in the field near his house at the start of the film.
The opening scene is light, happy and very humourous, then the mood of the film turns to a darker nature as Lynch reveals that even in a quiet seeming town there is a darker more unseen violence.
Lynch sticks to an almost conventional plot but doesn't fail to disappoint us. He delivers some tense camera work teamed with an equally tense soundtrack as we follow Jeffrey into a world of violence, sexual perversions, kidnap and murder.
The humourous start is repeated again at the end but this time it is much less light hearted as we have been shown the town beneath its friendly facade.
