If, like me, you can`t stand later Elvis at any price, then this generous 33-track compilation on one disc is perfect, concentrating on his early rock`n`roll numbers from the essential Blue Suede Shoes, Heartbreak Hotel and Hound Dog, to Stuck On You & Return to Sender, with one or two lesser known songs included, such as the superb Too Much, which was in fact new to me.
The Sun years are hardly represented, but they`re easy to get elsewhere. What you do get is a feast of great rock`n`roll from the swivel-hipped bequiffed one, with the odd track from his many films too, such as Party, Got a Lot of Livin` To Do, King Creole, and Hard Headed Woman.
One song here that for some reason doesn`t always make it onto Elvis compilations is the wonderful Treat Me Nice, with its intriguing chord sequence. It`s also good to hear such stalwarts as Big Hunk O`Love, though sadly the tremendous One Night is all too conspicuous by its absence. I could have happily done without one or two of his less than successful covers of others` hits like Memphis Tennessee and Rip It Up. Great to have One Sided Love Affair and his exciting version of Litle Sister though.
The sound is good, the packaging only incudes track listings, and the two extra tracks, the so-so Burning Love and Way Down from later in his career, only serve to emphasise the lack of what the compilers have left out.
Otherwise, this is probably one of the best selections of the classic early Elvis you`ll find.

Well, you can do anything
But lay off-a ma-ha blue suede shoes...

I have a CD with all Elvis' love songs on, and wanted a CD with JUST his Rock N Roll songs. This CD fits the bill perfectly !

I used to have this on tape until the tape machine chewed it up! Finally followed the CD & had it playing in the car the pasted few days. Great rock n roll classics such as Blue Suede Shoes, All Shook Up, Little Sister & 2 bonus tracks of Burning Love & Way Down. Elvis is Always In The Building

Growing up, I was always aware of what Elvis had been. I knew him as the 'King', one of the earliest 'rockers' and one of the most influential people in the history of music. Despite this, I had heard very little of his music so whilst in a library, I borrowed this CD. I was so amazed, I immediatly bought it as I wanted to listen to this over and over again. Put simply, his music is amazing! The energy he creates and the sound of the music is just a joy. The lyrics and rhythm seem totally unique and his vocal of the title track is one of the all-time classics. Although the music is not as complex as music from mid/late-60s onwards, it is still remarkable and brings a smile to your face. I can see why he was such a revolution! This CD can be considered a 'greatest hits' compilation as it brings together so many of the greats (33 of them!). This CD would make a great introductory CD of him but is also worthwhile to have in the more experienced collection. Fantastic! Long live the KING!
