Product Description
'It's the strangest time - a birth - for a life to start falling apart.' Set between the summers of 1998 and 2005 in Cardiff, "Blue Sky July" follows the story of a mother whose child suffers a colossal brain injury and her battle against 'impossible odds' to heal him. Through her intimate day by day musings, the book explores the impact of the tragedy on the mother's thoughts and feelings as the most extraordinary relationship unfolds.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully captivating read, 30 Sep 2007
This is a hauntingly beautiful book. The writing is poetic and explores the love that a mother has for her son. If you have ever doubted that we are born survivors and that there is always hope then read this and doubt no more.
I was truly caught up in the battles that have faced the author and her son and was moved to tears by some of the things that doctors said to her. Ultimately I cared for the characters and that is a true sign of a great book - I really wanted to know what happened at the end and was sad to leave the world that the author had so vividly painted for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A true, true tale, 26 Oct 2007
By Ms. Karen Schumacher (London, England) - See all my reviews

My child has profound and multiple difficulties and this was the first book that I have ever read that has captured the pain and the joy of the experience of motherhood in these circumstances. I cried and shouted out in relief in equal measure, in recognising my anguish, my anger and my love for my child in every beautiful and resonant line. Thank you so much Nia.

3.0 out of 5 stars A moving story, awkwardly told
This is a review of the book as a book. As to its subject and author, I have nothing but admiration, respect and humility in the face of what they achieved together. Read more

I thought I wouldn't like it. I thought it would be over-sentimental and depressing. Instead, it's just amazing. Read more
