Product Description

Synopsis

For those who could get their hands on it, the self-published edition of 'Blue Mountain Buckskin' inspired a generation of home tanners. This underground classic -- over 10,000 copies sold -- is now being published and made widely available for the first time. 'Blue Mountain Buckskin' is a complete how-to guide to tanning buckskin at home, using the methods Native Americans and outdoorsmen have preferred for thousands of years. It also includes 40 pages on creating garments, pouches, moccasins and other traditional uses of the deer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dont judge a book by its typewriting, 10 Aug 2009
By Mr. M. R. Smith (England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was a little taken back when I opened this book to read it. The text looks like it has come straight off a type writer on 30 year old paper.

Once I got used to the text style and the bunched together writing I soon realised that this book is actually very good.
It certainly shows you how to make buckskin using the 'dry scrape method'.
I am yet to try dry scraping but when I do ill have this book by my side.

What is also nice is that clothing and accessory design gets more coverage than most books which typically just leave you with a piece of buckskin saying 'and now you could make trousers, a top or a bag... go and work out how to do it for yourself'

A good book if you intend to learn dry scrap brain tanning which is also useful (and an interesting read) if like me, you are a wet scraper.
