Four Different Pattern Modes for Versatile Recording

Using Blue Microphone's proprietary tri-capsule technology, the Yeti can record sounds that range from the barely audible to the deafeningly loud--all without a loss of fidelity. Depending on what kind of sound you are recording, you can choose from four distinct pattern modes:

  • Stereo mode: The stereo mode uses both the left and right channels, and is ideal for capturing a realistic, general sound image.
  • Cardioid mode: Well-suited to podcasts, sung vocals, and other voice work, cardioid mode records sound sources that are directly in front of the microphone. It delivers a rich, full-bodied sound.
  • Omnidirectional mode: Omnidirectional mode picks up sound equally from all directions. It is best used in situations when you want to capture the ambience of "being there"--like a live recording of a band's performance.
  • Bidirectional mode: Bidirectional mode records from both the front and the rear of the microphone. It is ideal for capturing the nuance of a musical instrument, or recording an interview between two people.
Control Your Recording in Real-Time

With its controls for headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute, and microphone gain, the Yeti puts you in charge of every level of the recording process. If you are experiencing distortion or feedback while recording an especially loud source, simply adjust the microphone's sensitivity with the gain control. Or, if you want to take a break in the middle of a podcast, use the instant mute button.

The microphone comes equipped with a 3.5-millimeter headphone jack and allows you to listen to what you're recording in real-time, without latency delays. You can adjust the volume of your headphones using a control on the front of the microphone.

Blue Microphones Yeti USB Microphone
A stylish, retro aesthetic that will complement any computer system

Innovative Design Makes Recording Easy

The Yeti features a visual design inspired by classic recording equipment--a stylish, retro aesthetic that will complement any computer system. Its metal grille and shiny, chrome-toned frame recall the look of old-timey microphones.

Because it's built on a hinge, you can adjust and pivot the microphone in relation to the sound source, improving sound quality. Once you have it at a desired angle, you can use the set screws to secure it in place. The microphone can also be folded down for easy portability, or removed completely from its base for field recordings.

Hassle-Free Setup

The Yeti requires no complicated drivers to operate; simply plug it into your computer's USB port with the included USB cable, calibrate it with your operating system, and you're ready to record.

The microphone is compatible with Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP (Home and Professional), and Mac OS X (10.4.11 or higher), and requires a minimum of 64 MB of RAM.

The Yeti USB Microphone is backed by a two-year limited warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue Microphone Yeti USB 6 Aug 2010
    By Kevin
    Colour Name:Yeti
The microphone worked straight out of the box without the need to install any software. Indeed I was able to connect it to my IPad using the camera connection kit. The sound quality was distinctly superior to anything else I have ever used to record to a computer. In fact the sound quality was really impressive for voice and acoustic guitar. The microphone is well built and easy to use. I thought it represented very good value for money after I had set it up and tested it. Now after a few weeks of using it I am even more impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best microphones I've used. 10 Jun 2011
    By Jay
    Colour Name:Yeti|Verified Purchase
No installation required, just plugged straight in and it worked instantly (on windows 7, but works with Vista and XP also, have tried on both!).

The quality of this microphone is incredible. I've done a course in music production and used a lot of varying microphones at much higher prices than this, but this easily matches them at a fraction of the cost.

I do a lot of acoustic recording with this, generally using it on the "Stereo" setting, plugging my headphones straight into the Yeti to monitor the levels.

Also found out that your computer will register the Yeti as an external speaker, so if you select the Yeti as your default speaker when it's plugged in, you can listen to anything your computer plays (videos, games, music) through the headphones that are plugged into the yeti, and still be able to hear yourself speaking too! Fantastic little feature, was genuinely impressed.

I cannot rate this microphone highly enough, but 5/5 will have to do.

Also, purchased on Friday morning, arrived on Saturday morning. How's that for service!?

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent mic 12 Jan 2011
    Colour Name:Yeti|Verified Purchase
I'll just echo the other reviews here and note that this is an excellent mic. Just plug it in and it's recognised as an audio input source automatically in Mac OS X Snow Leopard, and indeed as an audio output source if you want to plug headphones into it (to monitor with zero delay). It picks up sound with stunning clarity (make sure you don't have the washing machine on elsewhere in the house, because you'll hear it here), and it certainly looks the part.

It is, of course, a huge beast of a thing (and solid too; I daresay you could knock out a burglar with it then record a statement for the police), but the size brings it up to the right level for recording when you're sitting at your desk. It also feels very radio-DJ, in a good way. Is it worth a hundred quid? No idea, but you clearly get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blue Yeti Microphone Review 27 May 2011
    Colour Name:Yeti|Verified Purchase
When I received this item I was excited just by the beautiful box it came in. When I got it out of the box everything I wanted was there; the heavy microphone bass made from cast aluminium, attached to the microphone, a good length of USB wire (3M) and a book with some graphs of frequency response on the different settings.

The instruction book had a load of information about the different settings but if you know anything about microphones and recording all you will need to look at is the knobs on the thing.

This thing is STURDY. It would take a small earthquake to knock it over. It is also very sensitive. I was previously on an ATR40 and the response on that was terrible. The response on this mic however is, compared to my previous one, out of this world. I was thinking about having my tea and it recorded that! Honestly though, it can pick anything up. I've been using it to record vocals and acoustic guitar mainly and i've had to have it on the quietest setting because it picks up everything so well. T

There's a 4-way selector knob for how you want the mic set up to record either 1. Stereo 2. Cardioid 3. Omnidirectional and 4. Bidirectional. You can change the gain of the mic with another knob, on the front you have a mute button and a headphone volume button.

When plugged in the computer and with headphones plugged into the mic you can record and hear the output from the computer.

If you want to record using a boom stand you can too, not sure how that would work live but fine for if you want it set up in a home studio, aimed at a guitar, kit or whatever.

Literally the best piece of kit I have ever bought for recording, great value and couldn't be happier. I can only imagine what the Yeti Pro is like but I can't think that I'd ever need one based on how good this is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sooooo easy 26 April 2011
    Colour Name:Yeti
I haven't recorded since the 90s when I did a few professional recordings.
I did a fair bit of research on the net for what I wanted - just to record voice and guitar in basic surroundings.
O.M.G. this Blue Yeti came out of the box, plugged into my laptop.
changed a couple of settings acc to brief 'manual', installed audacity and hey presto!
It really sounds like my voice - was hoping for Celine/Adele but that's not the mic. The clarity is wonderful.
    Background noise non-existent.
Very slight delay on recording harmonies, but will address as this written 30 mins after installing.
    guitar to add yet.
So delighted that I had to write!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to setup and go 27 Jun 2010
    Colour Name:Yeti|Verified Purchase
It's big and heavy, I've added a photo with my hand to give a sense of scale. Plug in the supplied USB cable, (on a Mac), select the Yeti in Sound Input System Preferences and you are ready to go. There's a Pattern selector knob with some unhelpful icons to represent the four different settings for the mic (stereo, cardioid for single person recording, omnidirectional for round table recording and bidirectional for two people across table recording). There is a Gain knob to increase the input for quiet sounds. If you choose, you can plug in some headphones to listed to the input as a Monitor. There is a front volume knob to control this sound level. This knob has a very spongy feel as if it hasn't been fitted properly. There is a red LED Mute button that blinks when muted or is permanently on when the mic is plugged into the computer.

I need to place the Yeti and stand on a sponge mat because the Yeti picks up the vibration of my hard drive through my desk. I am pleased with the sound quality. The mic is too big to be comfortably placed on my desktop and record screencasts which is what I bought it for. The build quality and material finish is not as high quality as I had expected. In this I was slightly disappointed but it works.
