I'm sorry, but the rule is...if you like certain films as a kid, you'll still like 'em as an adult,no matter how bad they turn out to be.A perfect example is Blue Jean Cop(aka Shakedown)a late '80s action/thriller.

It's got well above average dialogue and plot for a bargain basement cop movie, although the latter us jettisoned at the end for a so-bad-its-actually-hilarious blue screen climax. What actually saves this from obscurity are some excellent displays of balls to the wall stuntwork, and the much loved Sam Elliot. The man is a legend in his own right, with every performance a treasure. He can make bad movies extremely watchable(Roadhouse,a repressed gay love story, trust me it's there)and compliments classy ones(The Big Lebowski, genius)simply by turning up.

Like so much else in the genre,Blue Jean Cop is completely unbelievable, making something like Lethal Weapon or Die Hard look like a fly-on-the-wall documentary but yet still manages to be enjoyable because it knows it's rubbish,it just doesn't care.

Classic 80s buddy action movie with Peter Weller and Sam Elliott, featuring some excellent stunt work before computer effects took over in Hollywood. It's similar in tone to a Cannon action B-movie like Cobra or the Death Wish sequels.

However it's not well known that the movie originally ran 112 mins in the cinemas and was cut down to 97 mins on VHS and DVD. The UK DVD from Hollywood is in a 4:3 fullscreen aspect ratio and looks similar to a good VHS print (i.e. a typical budget DVD release). The US DVD from Universal was released under the original title (Shakedown) and is in 16:9 anamorphic widescreen with a much better print. Avoid the older US release from Goodtimes which is 4:3 and expensive (out of print). All these releases are the shorter version.

New York of yesterday was so much more fun than now.
Sam Elliot and Peter Weller are a good double act in this entertaining cop film and the action is very good :-)

This was a good movie for its time but comes across a bit dated now. Worth watching just to see the
Huggy Bear.
