I saw the film on TV, and had such a great time, I bought it for my DVD collection.
In my opinion it is one of the best films Steve Martin has made and he is well supported by his costars. Here Steve Martin really shines and this is high class comedy.
Pairing him up with Rick Moranis is a very good idea. The small FBI agent is remade by the crook, and helped to a better life, by his charge and the tough job of having to look after Steve Martin, in a witness protection job.
In fact Steve Martin becomes a sort of Piper, whose tunes changes everybody associated with him, and in fact the whole town around him.
Steve Martin's character is elegant, ruthlessly and - Beningly crocked and he stands out as the elite liar who can talk himself out of any situation, no matter how obviously guilty he is, he just cannot help himself when the opportunity comes his way - And it is beyond anybody's imagination.
Steven Martin spots the weakness in his victim, as his second nature, and he exploits it to the full in a dialog which is wickedly wonderful.
Everybody knows they have been had, they just don't know how to nail him.
Go for it. See it once a year - It will broaden your smile, I promise :D
When Steve Martn is Good, he is very Good, but when he is the Bad - He is even Better.
Sometimes Steven Martin overplays his part, this is not the case in this film. When he overplays in this film, it is part of the plot.
