Balkan Beat Box mix striking melodies and politically conscious lyrics with their familiar blend of Balkan and Mediterranean music - a style that's conquered festivals and clubs throughout the world with their thunderous dancefloor beats.

Balkan Beat Box have been wowing festival and club audiences around the world non-stop for the last couple of years with their wild, powerful show. Now Tamir Muskat, Ori Kaplan and Tomer Yosef are back with their strongest album so far - with striking melodies, rock-solid song structure and an ever-sharper political awareness alongside their familiar sonic collision of global musical styles and thundering dancefloor beats.

'Blue Eyed Black Boy' was recorded across a suitably diverse range of European locations - Ori's adopted city of Vienna, Austria, the Serbian capital of Belgrade and the band's mutual hometown Tel-Aviv in Israel. The title track shows a new, more measured side to BBB: the pace slows to a loping groove, guitars shimmer and Tomer delivers a thoughtful commentary on racial, social and political struggles seen through the 'blue eyes' of the 'black boy' in question.

Well really my title says it all. A bit like scatter-gun fire to begin with. But then settles down to some rather nice grooves which avoid immediate pigeon-holing. Good in the car. Less successful in the lounge. As other reviewers have commented, the Balkan moniker tends to restrict the perception of their range by the average punter. Tho' they do do Balkan pretty well...

After seeing Balkan Beat Box live I was a little disappointed by their first album. It's a very good album, but this album captures their energy more than any others. Brilliant mix of hiphop, balkan, gypsy and politically charged lyrics. Love it.

I definately won't be shelling out any money to buy this. BBB along with Shantel were instrumental to my discovery of Balkan and Gypsy music styles so I rate them very highly. However, this effort is quite a departure in style and I'm not at all impressed.
