As good as ever 4 Nov 2006

I bought the paperback version of this book on a recent visit to the states, and I am extremely glad I did. From beginning to end the plot is well scripted and you never know what is going to happen next. At every stage I wanted to keep reading and could not put it down. Although Scot Harvarth finds himself in trouble in this book, he somehow manages to keep himself on top. I wont ruin the ending but I have to say it took me by surprise. I would recommend this book to anyone, whether you have read Brar Thor before or otherwise. I am a fan of Brad Thor and this book has confirmed to me once more, the reasons for this.

Well after the incredible Lions of Lucerne I always look forward to reading a Brad Thor novel, Path of The Assassin started well and went a bit off the rails as did State of The Union, his trade mark now seems to be wonderful opening chapters but then gets bogged down too much in politics rather than action which hinders this book too much and is rather like some movies where the film builds from a great beginning takes too long with side line stories and then has a rush ending. Still Scott Harvarth is still a great character and Lions of Lucerne in my top 10.

When I saw that the author's nom de plume was 'Brad Thor', I guessed that the book inside the covers was going to be fairly dire, an impression reinforced by a cover quote from Dan Brown - usually the kiss of death for any thriller. And I was wrong.
This is actually a decent thriller, built around an interesting, if scientifically improbable, idea. The dialogue is fine, the characterization good, and the plot hangs together really well. There are one or two slightly over-the-top scenes, but on the whole I thought it was a very good read. I'll certainly be keeping an eye open for some of his other novels. I just wish he'd chosen a slightly less cringe-worthy name to write under ...
