This album is excellent 16 April 2001
Format:Audio CD
The Gimme Gimmes have come back with a pant wettingly innovative covers album. This is one album not to be missed. Check out track 8 'Stand By Your Man' and track 10 'I Only Want to be with you' - fantastic!

By DOPPLEGANGER TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
That a punk outfit is able to perfect the precarious art of making a success with cover numbers, when other more mainline groups in other genres have tried and received little positive response, is indeed surprising. That punk band is Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, a transient supergroup usually comprising Fat Mike of NOFX, Spike Slawson of Swingin' Utters, Chris Shiflett of Foo Fighters, Joey Cape and Dave Raun, both of Lagwagon, who have solely concentrated on cover albums over the years, with each one themed differently. But without a shadow of a doubt 'Blowin' In The Wind' is the finest of them all, a master class in how to use what have already been acclaimed hits, and put a completely different slant on them that results in a unique interpretation of the original hit which many like as much as or even more than the original.

'Blowin' In The Wind' is a tribute to the poppier, more chiffon skirted, flat shoes, and flash of white flesh above the stocking tops side of the 60's. The opener the eponymous "Blowin' In The Wind", is a karaoke masterpiece absolutely packed with punk power driven energy and might well have been one of the bands best ever recordings. It is stonkin' but if this doesn't convert you to a cover band devotee then surely the remainder of the album will.

Cat Steven's "Wild World", rocks to near explosive proportions, "Elenor" is burstin' with cornball lyrics, soaring harmonies and near mesmeric choruses, Del Shannon's "Runaway" and Linda Ronstadt's "Different Drum" are awash with spectacular leads, fancy drum fills, hooky rhythm's, and clever harmonies. All tracks are good but my stand-out selection is "Will You Love Me Tomorrow?", with it's charismatic hooks and earworm qualities.

And any regrets? Yes, that it lasts only for about 27 minutes and not for very much longer but in that short space of time 'The Gimme Gimmes' admirably show that making cover albums can be an inspiring auditory experience and not to be looked down people's noses at.

The best so far 14 July 2005
Format:Audio CD
Me first and the gimme gimmes are the best punk cover band in the world. This album is particualy good in my opinion - they've managed to get just the right amounts of all different styles of music and put them together as something well worth listening to again and again.

Unlike many other cover bands the gimme gimmes songs don't all sound the same and all the songs are recognisable. The best song on this album is by far 'will you still love me tomorrow' other great ones are 'stand by your man' 'wild world' and 'who put the bomp' but they are all classic songs made much much better.

buy it now and also buy the 'Ruin Jonny's Bar Mitzvah' album - live from a Bar Mitzvah and the 'are a drag' album featuring popular showtunes such as 'somewhere over the rainbow'.Hell buy all the gimme gimmes albums - I did. If you like funny music and piss-takes check out "Weird Al Yankovic" aswell he rocks.
