Gaellic grooves and deeply French fried pschyed out dancefloor instrumental foot stompers collide on this tasty compilation, thanks to the ace Blow Up gang. In the fourth audio installment, purveyors and lovers of the retro funky lounge sound can indulge their ears in 20 solid golden groove nuggets courtesy of the Chappell Music libary, which is a renowned label based in the heart of swinging Paris. Once a former home to some of France's best session musicians, Exclusive Blend 4 features gems from the likes of the great Parisian musical jetset Jack Arel, Pierre Dutour and Jean Claude Petit. The wealth of brilliance on this compilation is astounding.Elements of jazz, psychedelic mod pop, funk, soul and brass are weaved together to form a colourful tapestry of infectious top quality grooves guaranteed to put the dip in your hips and more glide in your slide! Once again, three French cheers to Paul Tunkin and the rest of the fab Blow Up posse for diggin deep into yet another 60s/70s audio treasure trove and unearthing a wealth of musical jewels more priceless than any diamond. A diamond maybe forever, but so to is Exclusive Blend 4.

Following the slight let down that was Exclusive Blend 3 which seemed flat and meandering compared the previous two entries in the series, Blow Up Exclusive Blend vol. 4 sees Paul Tunkin and co. raid the archives of the Chappell studios and come up with some awesome vintage grooves.
Whilst staying in France, the obvious influence is what was happening over the channel in Swinging London; the tunes all have far more of a beat, some standing out were "James Bang Party", "Business as Usual", "Time is getting short" and the slow and floating "Dreamambulation".
If you loved vols. 1 and 2 and felt a little cheated by vol. 3, BUY this record! Your faith in the Blow Up project will be restored and a smile glued to your face for the duration of the songs.
It's good to be Exclusive again.

EXCLUSIVE BLEND 4 is a collection of instrumental tracks created and performed by top French session-musicians during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Listening to it now, it's hard to believe the contents of this CD were originally commissioned as library/background music for use in tv and cinema productions of the period. Almost forty years down the line, we're still talking about some seriously cool stuff here. And considerably less Gallic, more 'Swinging 60s' London, to my ears as well: uptempo beats and funky guitars mixing it with demented keyboards and a skew of brass - a manifestly wierd yet wholly engaging experience from start to finish. The 'vibe', in other words.

None of the songs last more than a few minutes but the collective effect deserves at least a holding pattern around, if not full approach to, the dancefloor. And those who are willing and brave enough to succumb fully to the charms of EXCLUSIVE BLEND 4 will probably, thankfully, never be quite the same again. Bon chance.

Best Tracks:
AREL & PETIT'S 'Strange Galaxy' and 'De Paris A Liverpool'

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

From French Film Score Composers - A Solid Roundup 25 May 2006
By KC - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
They got off to a pretty good start - the first two CD in the series was a solid roundup of 1970's British funky action-adventure soundtrack scores - not as much fun perhaps as the Italian collections like EASY TEMPO or CINECETTA but solid & professional.

CD #3 was way sidetracked into generic & bad trip hop.

CD #4 is at least closer to the original - it's from the French Library collection of Chappell DMM Series of LPs, recorded in Paris from 1966 to the early 1970s - main composers are Jack Arel, Pierre Dutour, Jean Claude Petit and Paul Piot.

While there are no hidden gems - the quality is completely professional and a solid representation of that period - the hard driving drums, the horns and trumpets, the flying guitar licks, etc ...
