I hadn't heard of Blossom Dearie until early April 09 when I heard 'A Fine Spring Morning' (one of the tracks on this album) played on Radio 3. It was, in fact, a fine spring morning, and this song was so beautifully realised that it illuminated the whole day. Dearie's voice is at once fragile and steely, tuneless and wonderfully musical. For days after, the song remained in my head until I absolutely HAD to have the album. If you enjoy singers like Peggy Lee, Nina Simone, even Dionne Warwick singing Burt Bacharach, then I think you'll like Blossom Dearie. The awful thing is that she died quite recently, and it's very sad to think that such a talent is absent from us now.
