This is a review of the digitally remastered CD. I think others have also commented on the poor remastered sound. It is certainly true that it could be better, but overall the sound is still OK.
This 10cc album was made after Godley & Crème had left the group, so most of the songwriting credits are shared by Stewart & Gouldman. Many of the better songs on this album (`Shock on the Tube', `Anonymous Alcoholic', `Old Mister Time') still rely on telling little stories, which was always a 10cc forte. And the duo continues the 10cc tradition of clever and witty lyrics.
But unfortunately this, for me, is probably the worst 10cc album in my collection, due to it containing too many standard rockers (`Take These Chains', `Last Night') and too much plodding album-fodder. Take `For You & I', a sub-Supertramp song but which seems to have production layers missing. Also underproduced is `Tokyo', a would-be epic that might have been but never was. And the least said about `From Rochdale to Ocho Rios' the better.
Perhaps the group should have called in someone like Alan Parsons to produce. `Old Mister Time' is arguably the best track on the album. (Indeed, I don't like reggae, so I was never a fan of `Dreadlock Holiday'). `Old Mister Time' sounds just like Parsons's own stuff and Eric Stewart sang songs on a few of his albums.
