Book Description

6 Jun 2003
Meet Bloody Jack Faber, Scourge of the High Seas and Pirate-murderer, in the most swashbuckling, rip-roaring adventure of the year! Desperate to escape a life of poverty on the streets of London, twelve-year-old Jacky Faber joins the HMS Dolphin as a ship's boy. Looking forward to daring adventures and riches galore, Jacky soon discovers that surviving life at sea requires more than quick feet and hard work. Being shot at from all directions, taking on a fully-grown toothless pirate, or being washed up on a desert island demands courage and A Lot of luck. But Jacky loves it. There is just one problem - Jacky is a girl. And she will have to use every ounce of cunning she has if she is to keep the crew from discovering her secret. For eighteenth century girls aren't supposed to murder pirates, have tattoos or swear - are they?

5.0 out of 5 stars great 13 Feb 2008
Format:Paperback
i thought this was a brilliant story on a girl who pretends to be a boy to go onto a british man of war. It shows jackys fun, bouncy character and allows you to be enveloped in her way of thinking.

i loved the book and it was very cool how jackys writing seemed to get better as you go along and she becomes more educated. I would reccomend this book to anyone who enjoys a good, steady read and who loves a bit of adventure and girls who can take care of themselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars wow. 3 Aug 2007
Format:Paperback
I absolutely LOVE L.A Meyers Bloody Jack series, especially this first book!
It's probably my favourite book of all time. Meyers writes with a confident, vibrant voice, painting a truly inspirational heroine. Jacky is feisty, bold and real.
An exciting, beleivable book and a really gripping read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Review 20 Nov 2005
By C. Alty
Format:Hardcover
I picked this book up as I have a general interest in pirates, and read anything based around this subject. It has an unusual start on the streets of London, but is extremely factual and relevant to the time period in which it is set. Once Jacky has made it onboard, the author relives sea life as would be expected for a cabin boy - but Jacky is a girl - so there are some other female issues to consider. Whilst describing how Jacky copes with life on sea, it also details how she copes with, and hides the fact that she is not like the rest of the crew. A good read. Recommended.
