Review

"Darkly hypnotic...so vivid that even the undead seem alive."--"Publishers Weekly"

"Brian Lumley's skillful mix of epic fantasy and vampire muthology offers wide-angle horror of a scope too rarely seen in modern fiction. His Wamphri are vicious, savage, ruthless, and unrepentedntly evil--a feast for the horror fan."--F. Paul Wilson
--This text refers to the Paperback edition.

Product Description

Nestor and Nathan Kiklu are twins, united by blood and by a psychic bond inherited from their father, Harry Keogh, the Necroscope. Once so close each knew when the other breathed, they have become the bitterest of enemies, divided by the terrible evil of the Wamphyri. Nestor, now a vampire Lord, rules a portion of the great tower known as the Last Aerie, from which he and the beautiful but deadly vampire Lady, Wratha the Risen, hunt the humans once defended by the Necroscope. Nathan, flung through the Gate to Earth, discovers that he shares not only Harry Keogh's ability to talk to the dead but his power to travel effortlessly and instantly through space and time. Joining forces with Britain's E-Branch, a super-secret organization of psychics, Nathan returns to the vampire world to save his people. Nathan desperately seeks a way to redeem his twin, but despite the solace he finds in the arms of his childhood sweetheart, knows his fight with Nestor must end in death - and the death of all the vampires. Blood - both living and undead - is spilled as Earthly weapons are brought to bear against the metamorphic alien Wamphyri. --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

If you like your Vampires nasty this whole series is well worth reading. A cool take on Vampires with a rich history that makes you feel it. Lumley seems much more 'with it' than many of todays' horror authors. Track down his picture and see for your self.

This is one of the best vampire stories ever written. Lumley merges science fiction, horror, and fantasy into a dramatic epic that challenges the literary definition of a vampire novel. I just hope that Lumley is not finished with the necroscope story because I feel there is so much left to tell (excluding his recent flashback necroscope novels.

With Anne Rice and others contributing to the Vampire gendre, vampires have become tame , romantic, tragic, and rather endearing in their immortal humanity. Lumley breaks this current trend returning the Vampire to its place as pure evil and alien horror. Rice's Vampires we feel comfortable among, Lumley's Vampires we flee from, screaming in terror. Lumley's ability to spin a good yarn and to touch on our primordial fears makes him one of the classic horror writers of this half of the century.
