4.0 out of 5 stars Bloodstained Memoirs Review 15 Mar 2012
Format:DVD
"Bought this after reading the review on Inside Pulse which I agree with:

After years of painstaking work, interviews conducted all across the world and various battles to make it a reality, Bloodstained Memoirs has finally come to life on DVD. While originally finished in 2009 and being released via official streaming video, this is the first time it has been released on DVD. The set was released on October 17. Director David Sinnott and his crew interviewed ten wrestlers in various spots across the globe, include the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy and Japan to get their candid thoughts on their lives, careers and the pro wrestling industry in general. From 2005 until it finished production in 2009, this labor of love features interviews from a varied and eclectic group of wrestlers, including The Ultimo Dragon, Rowdy Roddy Piper, Christian Cage, Superfly Jimmy Snuka, Nora "Molly Holly" Greenwald, Chris Jericho, "The Great Muta" Keji Mutoh, Rob Van Dam, Mick Foley and Christy Hemme, who's entire interview feature is included in the extras section. And Al Snow wrapped it all up in nice little introductory packages preceding each segment. Originally the film was conceived to be a work/shoot film name Sex and Violence, but apparently the interviews while producing the initial concept proved to be more interesting, and that concept was scrapped in favour of the mini-shoot interviews that were instead compiled. The only teaser that was released for Sex and Violence, which includes a scripted dramatic scene with long-time wrestling journeyman Joe E. Legend, is included as an extra on this DVD.
The men and women interviewed provided a nice cross-section of wrestlers, spanning generations, promotions, success rate and countries. While no new ground was broken in any of the interviews, all were entertaining in their own right.
In fact a personal highlight was that of Keji Mutoh. While the whole interview had to relayed with subtitles, it ended up being one of the most engaging and entertaining of the set. And naturally Rowdy Roddy Piper had a fantastic bit, as he is one of the naturally charismatic and entertaining interviews in pro wrestling history. Christy Hemme's piece was also surprisingly fun, entertaining and informative and it was a shame it was relegated to the extras section.
Foley's bit was pretty disappointing as it mostly footage of him at a book signing for The Hardcore Diaries, his third autobiography. Jericho's also left something to be desired as the interview was taken during his post 2005 hiatus from WWE and was in full Fozzy band mode. In fact the interview was taken at a Fozzy show and thus the majority of the interview was about his music career, rather than his wrestling career.

As a lifelong wrestling fan it is always enjoyable to watch a documentary set like this. Any new pro wrestling knowledge that is unearthed is a good day. However it was disappointing that the DVD had no real narrative thread. It was just one interview into another, with only Al Snow's well-done introductions to serve as a transition in between. Knowing little about the project before receiving the DVD, there was an expectation of a story being told as opposed to completely separate and stand alone shoot interviews.
That being said, what is put together here is pretty phenomenal. Casual fans may be lost on some of the stories and background told in the interviews, but long-time and hardcore pro wrestling fans will eat this up."

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent DVD 29 Nov 2011
Format:DVD
Bloodstained Memoirs is an excellent watch. You get up close and personal with some of wrestling's biggest stars which ranges from entertaining (Mick Foley on Al Snow) to emotional (Snuka on Brody) to informative (all of Great Muta's scene). The DVD extras are well thought out also, with the lovely Christy Hemme, more Rowdy Roddy Piper and some behind the scenes footage.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE! THIS DOCUMENTARY SUCKS! 6 Feb 2012

WOW! What a let down. The only good interviews in this so-called documentary are Ultimo, Muta, Piper and RVD but the thing is they're only good when compared to the other garbage contained within this over-hyped, over-priced letdown of a DVD! Everything seems rushed, ad hock, jury rigged. This amateur obviously just accosted wrestlers in various places in England and convinced them to do an interview. Roddy Piper is clearly in a hotel lobby, Muta in a church, Ultimo is obviously doing a seminar and RVD was most certainly accosted at a Convention of some sort. The sound during the RVD interview is TERRIBLE! Lots of environmental noise. Not professional at all. Jericho only talks about his band....Hmm I wonder why? Maybe because he was interviewed at a Fozzy show he was doing? Yep, this is a thinly veiled attempt at passing off a non-wrestling interview as something vital and important to wrestling fans. Sorry, I'd rather hear about Jericho's years in Mexico or Japan rather than hear him talk about his band. How about the laughable "Interview" with Mick Foley? There's a real gem. Granted, I enjoyed seeing Mick interact with his fans and showcase his warm, funny personality but IT WASN'T AN INTERVIEW! They just set up a camera at a book signing he did at Borders and taped his encounters with fans!! How ghetto is that? The content of the interviews leaves a lot to the imagination. Piper is pretty much the only one that tackles any interesting issues or themes. Everyone else's stuff sounds like a friendly conversation between strangers rather than a thought-provoking, substantial interview. What's next? Maybe a video of Dean Malenko sleeping? How about one of Abdullah The Butcher reading a newspaper? Ooo that would be some hard hitting journalism right there! Oh, an Al Snow hosting this thing was a terrible idea. What a joke that was. The guy is as good at hosting as he is at not having a silly mustache. I felt like they did one take of everything and just sent it out. For christs sake, Al even messed up Jimmy Snukas classic hand gesture! One of the main reasons I bought this DVD was because I watched a trailer that showed Tom Billington AKA The Dynamite Kid followed by the phrase "Coming Soon". How can you promise interviews/material and then not produce? Who do you think you are?? This is so unfair to wrestling fans that are on a budget like myself. You wait and wait and wait for this thing to come out and finally when it does you charge entirely too much for it but the hype and the excitement get the best of you and WHAMO, you've just bought yourself a $30 piece of useless trash. You can find more interesting, satisfying interviews ANYWHERE on the internet. I can't believe I spent 30 bucks on this sorry excuse for a documentary! If you want real, informative, entertaining interviews then go get Beyond the Mat, any Youshoot DVD or even something like Raven: Secrets of the Ring. That's the type of material wrestling fans crave, not this BS! In summary, David Sincott is a liar and a thief. Don't get robbed, don't buy this DVD. Save your money, forget this lame documentary was ever made and just watch Botchamania instead :D
