The first thing you notice about this film is that very few people know about it. The first Bloodsport was a Van Damme classic with Jean Claude doing what he does best-fighting not acting. In this second installment we see Daniel Bernhardt taking over the main character, a master thief who is caught stealing a sword from a businessman he eventually comes face to face with. The general idea of the first is mirrored in the second with Bernhardt, after a spell in a vicious Thai prison, coming out and training up before fighting in the Kumite. This time there is no Chon Lee(Bolo Yeung) and new innovations include a women fighter who gets in a romance with Randy from the first movie. The films main saving grace is the new trick Alex(Bernhardt) learns. Called the Iron Hand it is a superpunch that can shatter things without needing to touch them, almost like something from Streetfighter. The final fight which is typically brutal and swings this way and that with plenty of twists before it comes out in the usual way. The film is a decent martial arts one but never lives up to the heights of its predecessor. Great for an all night moviefest though-little effort required at all.
